  • I have to point out that both of my Republican Senators quickly responded to my request for a meeting about the IBD bill.

No dates are set just yet, but I commend them on their prompt attention to my letter!

If you would like to fax a formal meeting request to you Congressman/woman or Senator, please email me or send me a PM and I can give you a great template that you can you!

    Cheers,

    Brent

  • Legislative update:

Met with Congressman Blackburn on Saturday. I presented her with a summary of the bill and asked her to co-sponsor.

I have meetings set up with staff members from Senator Bob Corker's office on Friday morning and Congressman John Tanner's office Friday afternoon.

And, to all the Wishlist street team members sending in letters and emails...thank you!

Thanks to all who are getting the word out about this important piece of legislation.

    Cheers,

    B

  • Silly question:

Does this bill have anything to do with making more public restrooms easily accessible?
Because if so I hope there’s a push to make them family restrooms.
Is it in the bill by any chance?

Not a silly question. This bill does not have anything about public restroom accessibility. I believe that is a state issue that has been passed in a few states thus far.

    This bill will:

    • Express the Sense of Congress that the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease at NIH should expand support for research on inflammatory bowel disease as described in the recently released report of the NIH National Commission on Digestive Diseases entitled, “Opportunities and Challenges in Digestive Diseases Research.”

    • Authorize for five years an IBD Epidemiology Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

    • Authorize the establishment of a Pediatric IBD Patient Registry at the CDC.

    • Authorize the establishment of an IBD Awareness Program at CDC - for both pediatric and adult disease - aimed at the general public and health care providers.

    Cheers,

  • Got a generic health care reform letter from Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) yesterday. I appreciate the letter, but do wish it was more personal and geared towards the topic of IBD.

I will continue to email and write the senator in hopes of hearing his thoughts on the bill and ask him to co-sponsor the bill.

Thank you to all the folks from Kentucky who have sent in emails and letters to both senators! Keep them coming!

    Happy Holidays to all!

    Cheers,

    Brent

I do apologize for the lack of updates. I feel ill and was down and out the whole month of January on short-term disability.

I'm just now starting to feel normal again.

As of today, we haven't had any new co-sponsors since mid-December.

I encourage all of you to send a simple email or place a call to your local legislator.

This is an important bill...there are too many people who are suffer silently with IBD because there isn't enough awareness and support.

    Thanks for all your help!

    Cheers,
