After listening to Backspacer in the car constantly for a couple of weeks, I decided to put Ten back in for a couple of days. Then today I went back to Backspacer and found it... refreshing. A lot more fun to listen to!

... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

Backspacer is phenomenal, it's on another level. I don't think Ed has (n)ever? been an atheist, like Philip Pullman he's always calling out to god. Backspacer is a triumph; by the whole band. They are centred, grounded, awe inspired, awe inspiring. But I bet they think when they come on stage the crowd are still cheering for the act before!

Dimitris, you might be able to help me actually; I was trying to find the ancient Greek word for raging against the Gods. I don't think it is actually Hubris, but another word, which I once knew and associated with the Amber Spy Glass. It may not be Daedalus or Icarus either, I can't seem to conjure it up from google but would know it if I saw it. Any pointers? The action of challenging God to reveal himself.

    hi meme,
don't think it is blasphemy to set backspacer over ten, not only for a while.
I agree with tremors (great words, indeed :) )

I do not get enough of backspacer... it has followed me since 23rd of september, walked with me through Rome and drove me to Berlin again (busy two last weeks).
Just recently I started with the bootlegs 09 and finally hear backspacer setting in.
This album is phenomenal indeed and so touching and getting sooo deep,
but I agree: they just reached on another lever and that is nothing blasphemic or bad. It is how it should be when you are great musicians + getting along very well:
the fave music is getting better and better and lucky us may be part of it all :D
    and dance along with....

    great 09 in Pearl Jam,
    danke and wow.
    :P

are u talking about greek mythology or about ancient greek poem???
are y talking about GOD Ira and Athina or Artemis maybe?..Or u talk about God Aris the God of war that was against the 11 Other Gods of Olymbus Mountain as Irodotos wrote on his books??
maybe u can find some info here too

I have to agree here I've been listening to all nine CDS in order, ( don;t ask I do that for every new release) and I can see where you're coming from. By the time you've taken tat whole emotional adventure through all of em in order, and ya get to Backspacer so many things fall into place (at least it has been working that way for me). And yes it by the time of it's rightfull place Backspacer is inspiring and refreshing, it welcomes the soul to continue on no matter the past or the present, I really am falling so in love with this one!!!

Hey there, I came to the Berlin show and thought about you!

I am in Florence for a year, let me know when you come down :)
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.
  • You are in Florence now?
This is funny. Eva7 and I were talking about travelling to Florence and spending a holiday there, one fine day, latest next year! So that is indeed funny now!

So who knows... I let you know when our plans are made in detail. Hopefully you will be still there!
Wishing you a great time and all the best!

and as always p.s. wasn't it a stunning show in Berlin? It was just wow.

Ten is a very dated album. That was damn near 20 years ago. I think the new album sounds fresher and definitely more interesting to listen to for sure.
    Go Get 'Em Tigers!
  • i listened to backspacer pretty much on repeat at every spare moment for the first 3 weeks, and have serious withdrawals now i've given my cd to a mate and have been listening to other stuff the last couple of days - i'm now gagging for some more backspacer action. it's just so gosh-darned fucking great to rock/chill/zone out to. best fun since vs - oooooooo, kill me fuckers... there i go blaspheming as well! ;)
