I found this interesting . . . digital sales of Backspacer was only 31% of the total:

-- Pearl Jam's latest album "Backspacer" debuted at the top of this week's Billboard album chart. The CD/Digital/LP split was 65/31/4. The LP format sold 7,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Only two titles in the Top 100, U2's "No Line On The Horizon" and Dave Matthews Band's "Big Whiskey & The Groogrux King," have sold that many LP units since being released. Neither, however, came close to Pearl Jam's first-week LP total.

Anybody that thinks the vinyl is great, needs to just stop collecting vinyl. Sure it looks good and is plenty heavy, but it sounds like dog shit.

I was very disappointed by it. There has been a couple of other threads that look at the issues with Backspacer vinyl, and seeing that this is not the intention of this thread, I won't go into detail here. But the Backspacer vinyl was a big let down. I just hope they don't use the same approach on forthcoming releases.
  • Pearl Jam vinyl has always been shit quality - an exact replica of the CD only with surface noise and muddy EQ. For a band that is supposedly so concerned about vinyl, they sure as hell don't know what they're doing when it comes to manufacturing it.
