Dinosaur Jr. & Bob Mould - TLA last night

I saw a PHENOMENAL show last night at the TLA on South Street in Philly. Bob Mould (of Sugar and Husker Du) opened for Dinosaur Jr. I was a little bit familiar with Husker Du but did not really know much about Bob Mould but he absolutely rocked! Played an hour set. Very good stuff.

Dinosaur Jr. was sick. J. Mascis is a ridiculous guitar player. He makes the three piece band sound like they're a 5 piece with three guitarists instead of one. If you haven't heard "Farm", Dinosaur Jr.'s latest album go do yourself a favor and pick it up. It should be considered one of the best albums of the year.

Only bad part of the night - The Theater of the Livings Arts (TLA) is a great venue but it must have been 90 degrees in there! Me and my buddies were sitting there sweating our asses of before the show even started and we weren't even moving around yet. We had a warm night in Philly last night and I think they've shut down the AC for the season and weren't gonna turn it back on.

Awesome. Has your hearing recovered yet?

I saw them two Saturdays ago in Cambridge, MA. Our opener was Lou Barlow playing with Mike Watt's band the Missingmen, with Lou on bass and vocals instead of Mike. Good freakin show!! I finally got to hear Get Me, one of my faves!

nice! i saw them a few months ago and Mike Watt opened but Lo didn't play, just Mike, a guitarist and a drummer that looked at least 1/2 their age. definitely the loudest show i've been to. going to see them again next weekend and Lou is supposed to be the opener.

on a side note i think Farm was far better than Backspacer

  • I'm seeing them in November and like two days later I'm seeing the Pixies, pretty cool couple of days I lined up for myself.

My hearing recovered yesterday (Sunday) from the Friday night show. It was seriously, seriously LOUD! Even my buddy Jim who goes to all kinds of punk shows (Hotwater Music, Against Me, etc.) couldn't believe how loud it was. Ears were still ringing like crazy Saturday night when I was going to sleep.

I wonder how much permanent damage was done?
