Wow, the bass on Gonna See My Friend is awesome. Never really paid attention to bass. Mostly just hear the rest, but then started hearing Jeff throughout the whole album. Is it me, or is there more bass in this album?

i've been thinking that, too. i usually do pay attention to bass but can barely here jeff. i feel like he really shines on this record. seems higher in the mix on this one. i love what he does on "gonna see my friend". sounds old-school to me

Ament does rule. Underrated as a musician and song writer. And he's cool.
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...

He is truly an amazing talent!!! On a side note, he's 2 days younger than me but doesn't look like he's aged a bit in 20 years - lol!

I on the other hand . . . well never mind let's just enjoy Jeff on the bass!!!
I wish a guy like Eddie, would like me.
  • I sometimes go to youtube and listen to someone doing the rockband version just to listen to the bass-heavy mix. :geek: Jeff kills on Force of Nature btw. :)

I does have that punkish old school feel I love it gald I'm not the only one who thinks this.. he truely makes the song.
  • I love the bass in Just Breathe
  • He is great on GSMF. But my favorite Ament part on the record is his bass line at the beginning of Johnny Guitar. Him and Matt definitely shine on Backspacer which was a pleasant surprise seeing as Jeff only wrote one song.

I wonder if working out the songs extensively before hitting the studio allowed him to really create some dynamic bass lines. And of course BoB had a had in how clear his bass is coming thru on Backspacer.

Every time I listen to the album, I can't get past how great Jeff and Matt sound on this record. They're really such a dynamic duo on the record, and you can really hear their parts, and they're such well played parts.

the bridge in johnny guitar is sick, sounds like something from the who.

the bassline in the fixer is awesome too, especially during the main riff.

Jeff's baseline on Just Breathe is fantastic...that man can hold a groove, can't he? Although JB wasn't played last nite in Diego - his bass playin' on Gonna See My Friend, Small Town, RVM, Why Go and You Are (among many others obviously :)) was fantastic...
I'll probably get scorched for this comment, but - Ament/Cameron make the live shows "tick"..yeah, Mike is a monster and I'd never take anything away from him, Ed or Stoney G - but we are hearing/witnessing a duo like JPJ/Bonzo - Lee/Peart - Ox/Moon - seriously - they just keep the machine chugging along and are so dynamic...
Can't wait for Tone 2 (sick basslines on Tone)
