nope, but wouldn't it at least be nice if they revealed what they had planned rather than acting as though nothing ever happened in the first place

for sure, that seemed like one of the biggest letdown in years.. hell, it was free.. Big and bold would have just made it better.

my guess is that they were going to stream the new album before its release date, but J records probably said no.

I don't think we'll ever know. From talking to a couple of people who are in the know, it would have been VERY BIG, whatever it was ... they just couldn't pull it together in the end.

Back a few years ago the mods started a thread on the Pit saying that Ten Club members were going to get something "big, bold, and free" and to stay tuned ...

Some weeks (days?) later, the thread mysteriously disappeared and nothing ever came of it...

I found it. Here is the original letter. Wish it was dated, but it was around 2005 or 2006...

A Love Letter to the fans:

It’s all love. And we just wanted to you to know … We love you because you love Pearl Jam. We love you because you participate in our Ten Club fun. We love you because of your enthusiasm and support for both Pearl Jam and the Ten Club. We love you because of your passion and dedication to music. It’s all love.

Like any other loving relationship, you must acknowledge that we are not perfect. We recognize we have some faults. Sometimes we send out newsletters too late, or the holiday single doesn’t come out during the holidays. Or we can only offer limited amount of tickets or merchandise, which leaves some of you without and extremely frustrated. Or sometimes our forums will go down, leaving you without your link to other fan club members. Or sometimes our web-store will not function properly for you and you are not able to purchase the items you are interested in … we want you to know we feel your pain. Every healthy relationship is a little push and pull, ebb and flow, up and down, so it’s nothing personal.

Pearl Jam and the Ten Club have been through many changes in the past year. The band has left their record label of 14 years and ventured into unstable but exciting territory of doing many things on their own. The Ten Club is a small operation and has taken on a lot of these endeavors, and we are learning many things along the way - your input is extremely helpful. During this transitional time, just know we are trying to make things better for you, to offer you more opportunities and include you more into the world of Pearl Jam.

That being said, we have high hopes that you will like us a whole lot more when all is said and done. We are planning to do something for our members early next year, to follow the release of the new record … something big, bold, beautiful, and free! So hang tight and enjoy the ride with us, continue to provide us with your input, and continue to spread the PJ love.

Did we mention that we love you? It’s all love.

    Always,

    ~Ten Club Staff

that rules out the streaming of the album suggestion.
    condescending and sarcastic since 1980
  • What's funny is, the reason they wrote that apologetic post was because of things THEY were doing wrong to us. It was a very nice gesture on their part to realize their errors and apologize and all but then to just ignore that they ever said it....so ignorant and unprofessional.

I'm starting to worry that the Ten Club Backspacer CD concert downloads are going to go the way of the BBF proclamation. Another digital lounge email came out today and there was no mention of our downloads. The album has been out for three weeks now.

Ah... well, that would have made sense for MSG. I believe by August they had already released their hold on the arena, and had shifted their hold to May 30th and 31st (or 5/31 and 6/1) which they ended up doing Storytellers instead. The intent for their MSG hold possibly being linked to BBF is strictly my speculation.

I still remember why it was first posted. The board was an ugly place with everyone ripping the ten club left and right after the Borgata and Wachovia 05 ticket sale debacles.

I think at one point the first two pages of the board were filled with nothing but anti ten club rants. The Canadian tour was the first group of shows to be sold via ten club. But then they sold Wachovia only through the ten club site and the servers (much like today - though it's gotten better) couldn't handle the demand and the bitch fest ensued. Also, it was the first show they sold that they didn't have unlimited ten club tix to like in prior tours so many, many people were shut out.

Ah,this thread brings back memories ... lol.

not big at all. a couple of hundred at the most. ...bold? I'd say PBS's ACL or Letterman tapings were much more bold than Storytellers.
