Hypothetical Question for Philly People

This is truly hypothetical but I want to get your reactions. This is the hypothetical situation:

Philly 4 gets the identical show as LA3. You can go and see the setlist. Opens with Sometimes, ends with Alive. Ben Harper comes and does Red Mosquito, there is a string quartet on Just Breathe, The End and Lukin. Cornell comes out and does Hunger Strike. Cantrell does the Alive solo. So- it's the same show, song for song, performed with the highest intensity you've ever seen them perform.

What would you be saying in the Fanviews the next morning?
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

  • Hopefully we will still be standing there listening to them play as they refuse to leave stage for the last ever show at the spectrum. Each time Eddie and Co comes back for an encore he says "Philly really does have the best fans ever."

I hope that's the case for you. Is that your way of saying you would be dissatisfied if my scenario became the truth?

  • You left out one very important part: Neil Young comes out and plays with PJ on RITFW :D

If I have the energy , I'd be going bat bleep insane after just witnessing the LA 4 reprise . Said reprise which would make up the bulk of the setlist from the first ever 40 song plus Pearl Jam show !!

    wouldn't be the first. 7/11/03.
  • Hmm, this seems to be another Philly show hater thread just trying to rile up the people who say the Philly shows will be the "BE ALL END ALL" PJ shows.

I'll play along though....ok after seeing the Philly shows setlist for setlist, guest for guest, I guess I would be kind of bummed. Seems too contrived for a band that I will have seen over 30 times just because every show they play seems to be unique and special.

That said, I don't think I have anything to worry about. Why would I have already gone to seem them as many times as I have already if I thought it was going to like that. Nice try though, sucks you won't be there OP cause it is going to be unreal! :D

Actually not a Philly show hater thread, and I do wish I could go there. I had 1 opportunity to see them this tour. My life is complicated with family, kids in school, stressful job, etc. So I got 1 show. I live 15-20 minutes from the Gibson. Still, I got 1 show. I picked LA 3 for a couple of reasons. One being the fact that it fit best in my schedule. Another factor is that I thought night 1 and 4 would be more popular with 10c people. I have a so-so number 251,xxx. So If 10c people were drawn to night 1 and especially night 4, I thought my number would do better on a night 3 in a relative sense. That worked as I was 7 rows up from the pit. I have never had good seats at a PJ concert, feeling "banned" by my number, set in a class of people never to be close. So the night 3 thing, given there was a rule of 1 10c pair for the 4 LA shows, was a play to get the best possible seats considering my number and I think it worked. So night 3 ends up being the night that there is a Rolling Stone article about. The Cornell thing. And for some strange reason, I have these wierd mixed feelings. It was an incredible show, great intensity. I don't know why I have these mixed feelings. I think everybody has their favorite songs, and if they have done 100 songs, everybody is going to like the ones they like and dislike. For example, if I were to say that I dislike Ghost and I like Push me, Pull me, people would jump all over me. So it's funny that I'm thinking why didn't I get Sad, In my Tree, Amongst the Waves and Gonna see my friend, despite getting Hunger Strike. And now I can't listen to Just Breathe anymore because some Walrus standing next to me sang it louder than Ed did, totally off-key, and now when I play it, all I hear is that guy F-ing it up in my mind. It's like if I went marlin fishing and the one I caught happened to not have a sword. Everybody would go, "dude you caught a marlin". And I'd be looking at the picture thinking why when it was raining vaginas did I get hit by a penis. It's all wrong. Maybe I need a shrink. I had a blast and mixed feelings all at the same time. I dunno. Wanted to get someone elses thoughts.

I was at all 4 LA shows, and I'll be at all 4 Philly shows, I would be surprised if the intensity and setlist don't meet or surpass the LA 3/4 energy...given the history of the venue and their love of hoops and the history and the last of all US dates...it will be tough to top, but I think they are at a live pinnacle right now, IMO
I met my wife here...you can too! Don't lose hope!

that it was an ok show. if each show had the same setlist & song rotation, it would kinda be boring.
plus, the la show's clocked in at almost 2 hour's a show! last night in philly, i see them going over 2 hours, tops!

    are you for real?
i thought many people have said that is that the other venue, not where pj will be playing. seems there's a lot of confusion there.

as to the OP, firstly, i probably would not even notice 'in the moment' that it is the EXACT same setlist as La, b/c while i check the setlist threads, i don't memorize them verbatim and also, i would be too in the moment of enjoying an amazing pj show! if the next day i actually visited here, which in itself is doubtful to happen until mondy...but if i did, so what? *I* would have had an amzing pj experience. even if the same setlist, no 2 shows will ever be *exactly* the same. besides which, my memories and experiences will be my own. so yea, no disappointment. beyond that, i highly doubt it would happen.

My fanview would say something like : "...even though the setlist was the exact same, at least the crowd appeared to have a pulse in Philly!"

yeah, you might need a shrink. sounds like those 'life complications' are affecting you pretty heavy. might be warning signs of clinical depression.

i'm not joking... that's a pretty glass if half empty approach and if you've got a ton on your plate right now, it might be getting to you.

I think a better way of asking is, what if the LA show never existed (meaning it would not be a repeat set from LA) and that's the setlist and circumstances (Cornell/Cantrell) that Philly gets. How would people react?

It feels like some, repeat some, fans are not going to be happy unless PJ plays 30+ songs and 3+ hour sets. What if Bruce doesn't show up? What if there are no special guests? What if they just play 4 tremendous shows, which they have been doing this whole show. I'm scared to see what some of the threads may look like the mornings after.

I am HUGGGE Phillies fan but I'm sorry to say they won't make it pat the second round. They will beat Colorado but They will not get past the Dodgers. It is going to be an L.A againt L.A. World Series. The Angels will win, I hope, for Nick Ademhart.
