not worth it. it would be great to have but lets face it, for 3k you could get a lot more than that, like concert tickets

    that's what I was sayin'

you can get a shitload of tix for lots of shows with that kind of money. then just buy the CD boots you attended.

plus, a lot of these are free on mp3's now.

They're ALL free on MP3s... well... if you look around.

I am shocked on that - I was wanting that set but I wouldn't pay half the final cost. I know a few of them are crazy rare... but wow.

Congrats to whoever got it though - that's a huge part of a PJ collection attained in one shot!

Would you just leave them in the shrink wrap to protect your investment? I think collecting should be about enjoying things...even if you have all the mp3s to listen to, is it worth that much for things that aren't really useful?

Then again I just paid $300 to frame my Virginia Beach poster. But I'm going to look at it every day, I swear! :-)

i agree! and about your poster, it's totally not the same, it's not like it changes color or something :p what else COULD you do with it?

I don't think the person that bought these has to use their life savings.. in fact, I bet he/she don't worry much about $$$$.

Well, I could put it in a $40 frame myself. But then it might change color, eventually. :-)

I have several posters from another band that I framed myself. I buy the next frame size up from the poster dimensions and paint the frame in a coordinating color or style, and put some art paper behind the poster. Like for one that has black and gold, I did a gold undercoat with a black "crackle" finish so it looks like it's old. I like doing these but I thought the PJ VB poster was so striking on its own (blue whale eating pink squid on black card stock), I wanted something understated for the frame. I won't frame all my PJ posters professionally.

And I agree that whoever's buying this probably isn't worried about the money. Maybe they'll buy two complete sets and open one and leave the other shrinkwrapped.

perhaps.. but i was referring to the op since he/she probably doesnt have the money, considering he/she made this thread, unsure if it was worth it... *sigh*.... to have the kind of money to just drop 3k on cds... i wish i had that money so i can get a vespa instead :D

well to me, if ya professionally frame it, that's enjoying it for what it is. now, if you framed all your cds... now thats kinda iffy, i'd rather enjoy a beautiful piece of artwork perfectly complemented with the right framing than look at my cds inside their glass cage.. begging to be played..

Hmmm...guess the person who brought it really wanted it and might be a collector.

To be honest though....$40 a show isn't too bad considering some of the prices on ebay I've seen in the past. e.g. Mexico shows go for over $100 a piece.

That's way too much, you could probably slowly buy the complete set for like 500.

I guess it's better then the person that bid $26 for one of the 08 MSG shows.

nope...average of AT LEAST $30 a show on ebay...
the poster above was right about the mexico boot too...Mountain View also sells for well over $100...Montreal and Toronto sell for over $60 each...alot sell for over $40-50 a show...
and those are mostly unsealed...this was the entire set SEALED

I paid over $2400 for an unsealed set on ebay back in 2004...so, $3200 for a sealed set isn't too bad of a deal...I'd be tempted right now to pick up a sealed set at that cost (I was watching it!)
    03: Toronto
    04: Toledo
    05: Kitchener, London, Hamilton, Toronto, Quebec City, St. John's 1 & 2
    06: Toronto 1 & 2, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati
    07: London, Dusseldorf
    08: Tampa

Yeah it is a crazy amount of $$$ considering most of us have the 2003 in FLAC/MP3 but that's just how the bootlegs are being sold everywhere.

My guess is that because most of us are collectors, if you don't have something, some of us may pay the extra $$ just to complete their collection....and it wouldn't surprise me that some us even have duplicate copies.

Just now I did a search on ebay and you can buy:

    - Australia 2003 (set of 10) going for $360 for a buy it now ($36 average per disc) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/PEARL-JAM-AUSTRALIA-2003-OFFICIAL-BOOTLEG-CD-SET-OF-10_W0QQitemZ200242538465QQihZ010QQcategoryZ307QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    - Japan 2003 (set of 5) going for $190.00 for a buy it now ($38 average per disc) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/PEARL-JAM-JAPAN-2003-OFFICIAL-LIVE-BOOTLEG-CD-SET-OF-5_W0QQitemZ200242541724QQihZ010QQcategoryZ307QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    - the 2000 bootlegs (72 discs) went for $900 the other day http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200239141412&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=010

So to get the 2000 or 2003 set slowly for $500...it'd be nice but I doubt that :(

Is it acceptable for people to share FLAC copies of the 2003 shows? I was looking for the Boston shows (7/2, 7/3, 7/11) and I found one on megaupload but I was surprised how small the rar file was.

Do people use ftp servers or torrents, or is megaupload the sharing method of choice around here?

Sure makes me raise my eyebrow. I have the 2003 set. Some of the shows are rare. There was a guy who had sales stats and reported weekly on studio releases and boots that were on sale in public outlets. Once or twice, he reported on 2003 boots. I think Birmingham, for example, sold maybe 1500 copies. I bought each leg and used the ship at once option. A couple of weeks after each leg, I remember this huge manilla envelope. Opening it and all of these CD pouring out. Sorting them, labeling and then listening to them one by one over the coming months....
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river
