That line kills me.

I am a kind of a new father of a Three year old and a ten month old.

I can't listen to "The End" anymore, I skip from "Force of Nature" to "Gonna see my friends"

I see there are many other folks on here with new children.

I wish you all the best and hope you treasure every moment.....

I too have a three year old daughter and a 11 year old step son. That line kills me - especially now that I've left my wife with the kids on her own while I am here in the states for two weeks. I know the state of love and trust - it is a beautiful thing. Thank goodness for video chat so I can see them every day - but i still get a lump in the throat and tears when we chat. I never knew how strong these paternal bonds were until now.

I can now understand that look in my father and mothres' eyes whenever i was hurt or sick or even arrested for something silly. I now know why they were willing to come and rescue me when I was out of my mind and in a strange or dangerous place when I was young and reckless with my health and life. I now understand the joy and worries of being a parent.

I've said it beofre, but growing up with pearl jam's music and evidently going through some of hte same highs and lows puts it all into perspective. This band is truly amazing. I've recently turned 40, I hope they're still producing music that reflects our lives when we are 60.
  • Hey Paul, good to hear from you, I hope the states treat you well and I wish the best for your family...

Thank Donald - please keep listening to the end, it just helps make the love and care even stronger.
  • Your right Paul, a few of the songs on Backspacer remind me not to take those closest to me for granted, like Just Breathe for example.

Makes me think of the wife and how I should always remember to show her respect...

Same here. I have a 2 yr old and 1 yr old and I usually skip this track because of that line.

I'm not sure all my PJ/EV therapy is saving me any money ... but it's certainly keeping me sane.
And sure as hell beats lying on a couch!

Sitting all alone in Philly on 6/12 hearing The End for the first time just cut. Hearing it on 10/1 with my daughter in my arms was bliss.

The higher the highs, the lower the lows -- so much better than some happy vodka-valium medium!
