Why LA3 was special (a thread for the purists)

Give me a little latitude on this one.
A real rarity that night -- and not even talking about the "Hunger Strike" moment (which words cannot aptly describe, btw) -- LA3 had no covers! All PJ songs. ("Interstellar" doesn't count, in my opinion, it only takes a minute or so and thus doesn't squeeze out any other song) And "Hunger Strike" gets a pass because, while not PJ, it might as well have been, especially since Matt is on board now.
I love the covers as much as the next person (quite OK that "Last Kiss" seems to be retired for now, to be honest), but a whole night of ONLY PJ stuff is pretty rare these days.
Seems like every show has it's own magic -- and that's what makes all this so fucking great!
Cheers to LA3 and my goodness am I kicking myself for not finding a way to stay for LA4. Best of luck to the San Diego crowd and I pity the poor people that will have to clean up after the Philly invasion.

amen to that.
think that's why the chicago shows were so powerful to me. 2 different feels to the shows, but they oddly found a way to complete themselves. i loved chicago 2, but find myself listening to the night 1 boot nonstop.
feel like i missed out a bit by not staying for LA4 to complete the feel of night 3...damn you, responsibilities!!
You may be right...but whether or not you are, I am going to use this to kick start the healing I require after missing LA4 after attending LA1-3...thank you for providing the justification my brain needs to get over my dark, deep depression this morning!
Suck on that LA4 attendees!
HA!
tell me about it...sitting under a gigantic rain cloud here in Missouri and brooding over missing night 4, the beach and sunshine.
I'm sure we have properly put night 4 people in their place -- they'll just have to live with that "measly" setlist of night 4.
let the healing begin...bring on 2010!
I have been explaining this to my wife in detail for years......
she keeps calling me a ho.
i've been called worse and at this point, i really don't have much of an argument against it, anymore.
10C since 1996 was #197XXX
Invited to MKE 1991 and turned it down. DAMMIT. Heard Ten a few weeks later. Kicked self.
Was in town for Torino, IT 2006 but got on the wrong bus. DAMMIT!
But you'll have to pry my LA2 Driven To Tears from my cold dead fingers! Ditto for Miracles!!!
And I expect many would say the same for LA4 Crown of Thorns....
Always subjective, many PJ songs I'd love to squeeze into the "perfect setlist" -- and yes, MANY of the covers are simply over-exposed, the thrill is gone -- but heck, I'd love them to release a full covers-only album and a covers-only show would totally rock - a la they could sing the phonebook and it would blow doors.
Just another aspect of their dynamic.
