Stage Backdrop change

I'm driving from phoenix to go to the San Diego show on Friday.

I've been looking at recent videos and it seems like they've been having the typewriter keyboard backdrop during some, and then just a giant circular "PJ" at other times. Are they switching it up for every show, or do they change backdrops mid-concert for the encores or something?

    They typewriter is for the main set, for the 1st encore they have some image, and for the 2nd encore they have the PJ circle.

    1st Encore is a very abstact scythe perhaps? It's the background on the flayed human head illustration? (They head ain't there, just he pendulum/scythe whatever that's present in the background?)

    And yes, the backdrops are SICK! I miss the wave, but the typewriter is awesome, different colors illuminate the keys during different times, very colorful at times, nearly b/w others. And he huge PJ is awesome -- like a big glowing moon behind them -- hard to photograph usually gets blown out, but some people have been getting some great shots of it.

    Yeah... but they sold seats behind the stage for San Diego... so I assume they won't have the same back drop thingy.... :o

    I think we're only get the backdrops at Philly 1. The other 3 shows they sold seats behind the stage. I don't know if they sold them for Night 1, but on the scalper sites no seats are listed behind the stage for night 1 and tons are listed for the other 3 nights.

    Yeah, it's going around, not surprised the backdrops caught it. Once the kids are back in school, only a matter of time until the parents catch it, then it gets spread through the office ... only a matter of time til the backdrops dropped.

    I said it was "SICK" because they've never completely switched backdrops before mid-concert, that I know of.

    I'd love to make one post without people making sarcastic and down-putting remarks for no reason. You're a 10 clubber; but if you're a jerk as well, you're following the wrong band.

    Looks like San Diego will be 360 degree seating, so there won't be a backdrop at all...

    Not that theater-in-the-round was tragic in San Diego. Neat to see the fans groovin' behind the stage. And they way they back-drop/half-curtain off the area directly behind them is neat -- creates this interesting "void" or black stripe across the venue. And more lights kinda like car head lights shining out from the stage.

    I noticed the SD "strip" was actually the 1st Encore Backdrop -- the stylized scythe background from flayed-head Backspacer artwork. And they had fun lighting it still.

    has anyone else noticed on the keyboard backdrop it says (FIG) (P) (E) (A) (R) (L) (J) (A) (M) in the same row?

    that surprises me. not a big deal of course, but given how pj more often than not worked without a backdrop, to actually have backdrop changes now is just...odd. not good or bad. eh, perhaps after ed's solo tour and his backdrops, he enjoyed it and wanted that brought to pj too. i remember first seeing the wave backdrop and it was so utterly gorgeous. of course, the typewriter fits better now. :D


    as long as ed doesn't start changing his clothes for various songs/sets...it's all good. :lol:
