Song Compilation

Out of curiosity, does anyone know of a compilation which features only the first time each given song in the PJ catalog was played live? Not the "best version," which is always subjective mind you. Just the first appearance of a song live. Not covers. Just PJ originals.

If not, why not?

Seriously though, it would imply A LOT of digging into old bootlegs and finding decent sounding versions of all the song firsts. Seems doable for someone with an appropriate collection however.

My friend was going to see Eddie last night. Since he was in Vegas, I gave him 5 Grand to gamble with. I told him I wanted it all to go on Black. Bastard! PhillyCrownOfThorns-11-2-12

Yeahhhhh... Not only do I not have an appropriate collection, I also do not have an appropriate amount of time.

Thanks for the tip. Part of my posing the question to the board was because I took a look at that list in the first place. I would describe it as... hugenormous, perhaps. :)

I ran across the Green Disease series that someone put together before and really appreciated the time and effort they put into it (10 disks w/artwork, I think?). This got me to wondering if some other brave soul had invested a similar amount of time in creating a first-time-played series.

I'd love to do a first-time-played series, but don't know that I have the resources at the moment. Ultimately I could do it, but it would take me a few months. But why invest that time just to recreate something which someone else has already devoted their time to (if they have)?

Green Habit Compilation, not Green Disease. 10 discs of awesomeness.

Dunno why you'd want to do this (although, be my guest of course) as you are gonna get a compilation that features, in the main, large chunks of the first 3 or 4 concerts of each tour. And sound quality pre-2000 will be pretty average in the main given that you are bound to the available recording of each specific concert.

Looks pretty cool indeed. Is it all the songs that were ever played live through Riot Act?

My thoughts exactly - decent sounding versions should be hard to come across...

Sounds about right. This was one of the first B&Ps I ever did and it is very much responsible for the PJ tragic that I have become today. I believe it was mostly through RM and was put together by admin Green Habit moderating user votes and discussion for the best performances of each tune.

It's in chronological order as far as the order that each song was played live, but the "best" versions of songs were used.

Great shit. Bout time for discs 11 and 12 though I'd guess. Well, probably once 2009 is through.

Yes, yes... Green Habit. Thank you for the correction.

About sound quality relative to the 200 and post official boots... You're correct. I'm sure some of the sound quality is going to be pretty sketchy. I do still find a particular amount of fascination and joy at hearing that first Off Ramp show though. Additionally, there are times where I strongly prefer the sound quality of the pre 2000 recordings which were straight from the soundboard.

Certainly, not arguing the excellentness of available sbds and, indeed, the quality of so many aud's out there in our prolific and brilliant pj community, but what you are proposing is locking yourself in to the very first available recording of each song. Occassionally you will luck out with a sbd but most of the time you'll be forced to use the 'microphone down the jocks' version from the night previous.

    Just sayin'

This is probably more true than I think.

Well... to be honest, I'm proposing that if it hasn't already been done... someone else should do it so I can just admire what a great job they've done.

Unless, that is, someone would help me out with the project and have very generous timelines.
