Why are they remaking Nightmare on Elm Street?

I just saw the trailer and it looks HORRIBLE. Do they really expect people to see anyone but Robert Englund as Freddie? Or maybe I'm just an 80s baby that could never see anyone else being Freddy...or Nancy....

    exactly.
    believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

    I couldn't agree with you more. This is as bad as when they remade Willy Wonka.

    willy wonka remake sucked ass.. it was like watching micheal jackson at neverland ranch. it was very creepy

    Um technically they didn't remake the movie willy wonka, it is based on a novel, therefore the 70s one was the first adaption of the book, the 00s one the second.
    {if (work != 0) {
    work = work + 1;

    else if (work >= 0) {

    work = work +1;
    }system("pause");
    return 0;}

    oh. either way it still creepy.

  • It'll no doubt be another opportunity for some pissant director to have carte blanche on his weirdest, sickest imaginings. That pretty much seems to be the MO for most so called 'horror' films now.

    The effort to reproduce the creepy, taut suspense of the original probably hasn't entered their minds.

    I predict a fail.
    It's gonna be a glorious day...

    You can cry technicality all you want. Yes, it was another attempt to make a movie adaptation that was already made. Like everyone else so far has said, it was horrible. I like Johnny Depp but holy moly that was bad.

    AFter seeing the trailer for the new Nightmare it looks like it's going to be the same type of flop. Just like When a Stranger Calls. The originals are USUALLY the better versions. Nowadays it seems a lot of it is who has the best effects, not story, or characters.

    No, Evil Dead 2 was really a remake of Evil Dead. They keep remaking movies from my childhood too. This should probably be in the "you know you're old when"....they make movies and everyone nowadays thinks they're new...but you remember the originals!

    The Poltergeist remake is the one I am dreading. That is a perfect movie.

    Fuck it, why don't we just remake Jaws, ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars while we are at it?

    hollywood gave up when they decided to remake the bad news bears

    the person that thought that would be a good idea should be scrubbed with a cheese grater and dumped into a vat of tabasco sauce then rinsed off with lemon juice...then kicked in the nuts by each member of the original cast

  • One of my favorite movies about to be destroyed. The best part about old scary movies was that they didn't explain everything so it left you guessing. Movies rely too much on blood and gore instead of suspense.
  • I thought the new one is actually a prequel to the very first one--about how Freddy died and all that--before he had all the burn scars and was an actual person with a normal face. Remember how he was a serial killer and the parents on Elm Street all got together and killed him. that's why he came back and haunted all their children in their dreams.

    That's what they're all doing now. Ever since Lucas came out with the prequels to the orinal Star Wars series. Then came Batman Begins. That Wolverine prequel to X-Men. I think the movie people realize that sequels have been know to flop in the past, but prequels are a different story.

    I thought that remake was appalling! To be honest I can't think of one remake that is any good (including The Departed!)- other than the French version of Fingers - The Beat My Heart Skipped http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411270/ . Might be a couple more I've overlooked, but they are a huge rarity!

    I noticed in the new trailer as they're burning Freddy he yells that he didn't do what they thought he did. I hate how now it seems like every bad guy has to be misunderstood and really have good qualities. The whole point of the original Freddy was that he was pure evil to the core. Now we get the new and improved "softer" Kruger.

    What a puss out, crappy idea.

    The worst though was the Sandman in the last Spider-man movie. Seriously, Hollywood copies anything that makes a buck, why can't they at least take a note from The Dark Night and let the bad guys be bad?

  • It was only a matter of time before they would do this to Freddy. Leatherface, Michael Myers and Jason have all had their origin filled remakes. I think the biggest tragedy of this remake is the fact that Robert Englund was so instrumental to the Freddie character and he is not getting the star role for this remake. All of the other mentioned killers were stiffs in masked played by multiple actors.
