number 2 in Australia gold, so betweek 35 and 70k units in 2 weeks.
Muse has been out 3 weeks and is in 3rd with platinum - 70k + so i would expect Backspacer to pass that mark here in the next week
on a different note, Alice in Chains deubted at number 12 out here

Looks like it ended up at just under 59,000, a 69% drop from last week. That's good enough for #10.
Pearl Jam's first-week sales would have been good enough to top the chart this week, despite the slew of new releases and an unusually competitive top three. Paramore, Barbra Streisand and Mariah Carey were all between 172,000 and 185,000. AIC is #5 with 128,000. (Breaking Benjamin debuts at #4.)
They need to release a second single (Force of Nature or Just Breathe) soon.
Plus, the band should visit Letterman.
Otherwise, it has no chance of reaching gold.
It has already sold 250,000 copies. It's not going to be pulled from the shelves next week. Anyway, "gold" certification is awarded for shipping 500,000 copies, not selling 500,000 copies. Someone on the board indicated that Pearl Jam shipped a million copies to Target. If that's true, the record would be eligible for platinum certification. Of course, with no record company, it's not clear who would ask for the certification.
Riot Act went Gold and that fell from its debut at #5 to 36, finally disappeared out of the top 100 in week 6.
A second single is required though I dont know which one, there is a bunch of contenders.
If pearl jam had shipped a million copies then that would been on the charts already. I guess you don't remember the whole fiasco that started with Garth Brooks? PJ held the record for most albums sold in a week with Vs. It looked like no one could touch that record. So they cheated and change the math.
The charts used to be based on albums sold, they switched it to albums shipped. So now all an artist has to do is find enough retailers to ship a bunch of albums too to crank the number up in the first week.
So the shipments are already reflected in the numbers you're seeing on the charts. BTW If they'd never changed the way they counted it, i'm fairly convinced PJ would still hold the record.

Fourth week sales were just over 20,000. Looks like this will place "Backspacer" at No. 23 on The Billboard 200. (Note: Hits Daily Double lists it at No. 25, but that includes two Michael Jackson catalog albums ahead of it that are not eligible for The Billboard 200.)
So, the chart run so far looks to be 1-10-16-23, which means "Backspacer" is holding up much better than "Riot Act," but not quite as well as "Pearl Jam," at least over the first month. "Pearl Jam" was 2-8-10-17-22 the first 5 weeks; "Riot Act" was 5-36-67-90-100.
