So after yet another failed attempt by a dedicated group of fans to get "Smile" played last night, I figured it was time to remind everyone that THE BAND DOES NOT CARE WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR AND DOES NOT CHECK THE BOARD FOR SUGGESTIONS!

Sorry, SLC dude - if Of the Girl hadn't been played in 10 years it might be a little suspicious, but you just happened to be at the right place at the right time as it has been popping up every so often. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled for you. It just had absolutely nothing with your post on this board.

Here's a thought: If they wanted requests they would set up an online form to do so. R.E.M. did it. Wilco did it. Others have done it. Maybe one day they will follow suit but until then I think everyone needs to just give it a rest.

I don't think you are 100% correct, but I agree with your main point. I think that the band, or people with the band, do read the posts, and do sometimes play songs that someone on here requested, or that we all requested. Do you think No Way would have been played if we weren't all begging for it?

In fact, I think the band has shown they do sometimes play requests, and that is the problem. Now everyone thinks they can get their song played, so we have tons of posts requesting songs. I agree there should be a form or poll or something, that would be pretty cool. The Rolling Stones have done it a few times where fans could vote on a song for each show, and that would be something worth considering.

The best way to get your song played though, is to run into someone in the band the day of or before a show, and ask them. That usually works out pretty well. Unfortunately, that is not a very easy route.

anyhoo, seriously, wtf is wrong with song requests? whether here or elsewhere, whether they get seen or not....people enjoy discussing what songs they long to hear live and so on....given this IS the porch, the place to discuss all things pearl jam, i'll take 50 threads of song requests over 25 bitchin'...

I've got to agree with the person who basically stated that if you can't request a song in the Porch, where can you. I would say that you could channel almost every thread into probably 8-10 basic categories. Song requests being one of them. What I really appreciate is when people are very descriptive in the thread title about what the thread is about. Then, I can chose to read ot ignore. I don't like the thread titles which say "wow" or "I guess now..." or "it's official" where I have no idea what it is about. Too bad we don't have the ability to hover the mouse to see the first few lines of content. I'm not a huge fan of these song request threads but this is the place for them and I can't complain.

All Night, Who You Are, WMA and old Garden didnt all get dragged out for no reason on the last tour.

Add Brother, No Way, and the Real Me for this years tour. Those songs were all pretty heavily requested on here before the tour started, so i'd say they definitely respond to some of whats on here.

Tremor Christ in Turin 06 was a flag request, Whipping in Poland 07 for the guy who'd been to like 80(?) shows, the dedicated Throw Your Arms in Perth 06 to the newly married couple they'd met earlier that day... im sure they dont announce them half the time. They do some pretty rare song at every show, and they have to get asked for songs all the time by whoever it is they meet before a show, or from the people they see at the front regularly on tour.

Now, if they'd respond to the PLAY BUGS YOU PUSSIES thread i think we'd have a definite answer to this whole thing!

Granted, I realise that Bugs doesnt match up to Otherside, that song is the business.

If i could fit in what i really want my request to say it would read something like this:
