Saturday = My 7 Year old Daughter's Birthday Party. There were 11, seven year old's in my house for 2.5 hours
Sunday = My 5 year old Daughter's Birthday Party. There were 17, 5 year old's in my house for 2.5 hours.
At the end of all of this I had to take about a million toys out of their packages. I swear to god, I will never understand why a Barbie doll has to have so many damn strings and plastic thingy's attaching them to the box.
I am glad to be back to work......even with the 6 hour budget meeting that faces me at 9am.
(And for those of you who are wondering why my daughters have birthday's so close......It was just a freak of nature).

now you have some idea what many teachers deal with on a daily basis during the school year! and they actually have to teach your kids something, not just entertain em!
seriously...i hope you had a BIG glass of wine, shot, smoked a j....whatever you do to unwind....after all that! also hope your daughters had fantastic parties and memories made! well done dad.

It worked out well. She had it at a park in a pavillion. It was about 2 weeks ago. Nice day!
It's gotta be some sick, sadist bastards working the the toy industry... While packaging, there is no need to screw down and wire-tie a firetruck in 17 places to secure it in the box.
was like a picture

I have a feeling many of them do just that.....
Go home...smoke a joint....drink some wine....drink some whiskey....
And then go back to school the next day and deal with a bunch of 7yr olds.......
And again....
That fucking scares me...........
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
It's an anti-theft system that the toy manufacturers have come up with.
why?
having a glass of wine is going to infringe on your ability to be a good teacher?
(i understand your pov in regards to MJ since it's illegal here, but mr.merkinball lives in canada, where it is decriminalized)
bottomline, having a drink or two, or smoking a j to unwind, in no way will infinge on your abilities in general, and certainly not your abilities to be an excellent teacher. seriously. now to abuse any such substances, of course another story...
i was an excellent teacher, well regarded by my peers, excellent annual reviews, great rapport with my students. i have been known to imbibe. this makes me a bad teacher? cmon now...perspective please? just sayin'.
mr.merkinball...hope you are recovered well fom your party weekend!

Ever see Half Baked? kenny was a great kindergarten teacher!
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
It astonishes me. He doesn't teach elementary school anymore, now he teaches high school, which is even more astonishing. I know his students must know. I had a high school teacher who drank too much and we all knew. Not 'cuz of the smell of alcohol, but 'cuz of his behavior. It doesn't take much to learn how people act on various substances. He would ahte to think I am even posting this or that I think like this. I have told him, but I think he discounts what I say and to see it in black and white would bother him. Too bad, its the truth.
AMEN!!! EVERYTHING is like that now. My little girl has about 50 baby dolls and those are wired into the box. It's like they're afraid the babies they created are too real and may come alive and take over the word. I've even had some that are literally screwed in. WHAT THE FUCK????
Most I ever had to do was take off a couple twist ties or break the little plastic weapons squares apart. Kids these days actually have a reason to collect their toys. They're impossible to get out.
It's not decriminalized in Canada...sorry still against the law

You compared 2 Birthday Parties ........Birthday Parties?? Where kids are eating cake, playing games, smacking a pinata, etc..............Birthday Parties...
One for a 7 year old....
One for a 5 year old....
To teaching......Where children are in a classroom, to learn how to read and write.
And that also scares me......just sayin
Actually everything about your response scares me.....
Now you know what many of us teachers deal with on a daily basis?????? (He was in charge of 2 birthday parties)
Go smoke some dope or drink some booze???? (He was in charge of 2 birthday parties)
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....

I did have a few beers with the wife afterwards......
I'm not comparing what I went through, to teaching. Fuck - I don't know how teachers do what they do. There's a reason why most of 'em are nuts.
I'm just saying...I had a lot of kids all hopped up on sugar running around my house, and it's not what I was used to.
however, if you have spent any time in the front of a kindergarten-2nd grade class, at times, the kids are just wild! so yes, a birthday party does not equal a classroom, of course not...i was merely pointing out being surrounded by 15-25 children all at once and what a project it can be. sheesh. sorry if the humor of that didn't come thru.
and i just thought you equating the idea of having a glass of wine to destress/relax as being 'scary' a bit over-dramatic. kinda like your reaction to my second comments. but whateva. go ahead and be "scared".... :?
thought that pretty clearly read as humor, but hey...i only taught art, not writing. mea culpa. :?
mr.merkinball, i KNOW you weren't comparing it twas i making a joke, that was apparently lost. a birthday party in no way compares to being in the classroom...just the idea of being surrounded by so many kids all at once, two days in a row, made me think of it in that light. and yes, most outside of teaching are NOT used to it and it can be overwhelming coordinating them all etc. but hey, what do i know...i only spent 6 years of my life studying to be a teacher, permanently certified, 10 years in the classroom :P.....and for the record, no, i did not drink/party on schoolnights. hahahaha.

And mr.merkin - you have more guts than I! I've had two bday parties in my home and it will NEVER happen again...I'd rather pay to do it elsewhere.
I have never, ever been as close to snapping as I was at my daughters' second bday party - fifteen kids under 6 surrounding me and the cake, all trying to poke their fingers in it, fighting over who got the flower or the corner piece or whatever, while their parents all socialized and ignored the fact that their children were infuriating me and I had a knife....
What type of art did you teach???
How old were your students???
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
fine arts...painting, drawing, sculpture...the usual gamut.
certified K-12, but my teaching career was spent teaching preK through grade 8.
so that would make them ages 5 thru 14.
btw - thus my 'joke'....teaching 20 5 year olds to paint, can very much appear like a birthday party at times...

So did all the students in your school come to you for there art classes?? Each class or grade meeting with you once or twice a week??
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
once a week for 40 minutes, yes. i saw every student in the school.
