Nah, as a massive Radiohead geek, I'd have to go with In Rainbows, it's aural depth alone is incredible never mind the seemingly simple compositions of the suprisingly catchy tracks... I think the only reason it's not higher rated on these polls is it's easily accessible to a large majority and not just Musos

But like the jam the band are about evolution not stand alone triumphs which make them great instead of formulaic, grow with them baby... ;)
I happen to agree with you, I find in rainbows to be their best complete record

I hate "best" lists, they are useless.

I would agree with you if it weren't for their first album of the decade, De Stijl, which just might be better.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

  • I don't think so.. Damn good record though..

.. I remember reading in a Chuck Klosterman book that he thought Kid A sort of predicted 9/11 or something..? The calm beginning... everything in it's right place..then the quietly creepy Kid A..leading into the building madness of the National Anthem in which the increasing tempo leads to an instrumental finale with two final blows..straight into the sadness of How to Disappear Completely picturing white covered streets.. "I'm not here..this isn't happening".. then Treefingers is sort of instrumentally thinking about what has happened..into Optimistic which kind of speaks for itself.. Personally I dig Morning Bell the most..

    Great theory Chuck!

Never heard that.....it's mental how people can twist anything to make a good conspiracy theory that suits their idea! 8-)
How To Disappear Completely is incredible, I'd almost forgotten how good that song was.
I remeber listening to it and thinking did he just say that? ("I float down the Liffey" is a wee bit of a Dublin reference).

I'm still gona say that Origin Of Symmetry, Damien Rice's "O", are my albums of the decade.

Kid A ... a great album ... but In Rainbows is better.

I still haven't listened to Amnesiac yet, even though I bought it the year it came out. I should probably get crackin' on that.... definitely before the end of the next decade. Yes, definitely by then. (There is no smilie to properly express the degree of my lunacy)

I agree, but those aren't in this decade.

Why is everyone too cool to realize that The Bends is Radiohead's best album? I mean seriously. Too many choruses? Melody? Guitars? Everyone needs to just put down the pipe and Kool-Aid.

And how Pitchfork ever gained any credibility with anyone is beyond me. I put about as much credence in what they tell me about music as I do Maxim.

oh no im not too cool. the bends is my fave radiohead album. but imo OK is their best.

Yeah, In Rainbows wipes the floor with a lot of what they've done this decade, and that's not saying that their work from this decade isn't amazing. It's just so lush in it's simplicity, and has so many pretty melodies.

Amnesiac is definitely worth listening to, though. Packt Like Sardines in A Crush Tin Box, Pyramid Song, Life In A Glass House...all great songs.

there's just so many layers to the music on in rainbows yet the songs don't seem overcrowded. if only they had spent more time recording hail to the thief instead of doing it in a week or 2.

i like all of their albums, even pablo honey which i think gets a bad rap. amnesiac is a great album, so many great songs but not the flow kid a had. dollars and cents, i might be wrong, pulk/pull revolving doors....really the only song i ever skip on it is that early version of morning bell. i think i'd put hail to the thief as my favorite with in rainbows being 2 (and amnesiac 3). had some of the songs from the bonus disc been on the album in rainbows would probably be 1.

on a side note i don't think they pull packt like sardines in a crushed tin box off live at all

I like the live version of "Packt," I don't think they'd be able to replicate the album version well.

My favorite is The Bends too, by a very tiny hair over OK Computer. But I say the first half of OK Computer is the best first half of any album.

Oh, my friend, good choice. It's definitely debatable. All people need to know about that album is "Death Letter" and they will be hooked to that album. I love it. But Elephant holds a spot at #1 for me by them and of this decade. Pretty much all their albums are great.

Considering there are so many great albums that were released in this decade...it's hard to narrow it down to just one...

I think Kid A is a good candidate based on it's own merits, albeit the choice of greatest album of the decade is all opinionated based on your personal taste...

Or maybe I just don't analyze it enough. I'll give Radiohead credit for this: They are one of the leading groups of musicians that push the boundaries.

I just took your recommendation on PJ Harvey's "Stories" album....wow....awesome! 8-)

I own "Rid Of Me" and I love it...I'm glad I've decided to take the plunge into PJ Harvey's catalog...

i think yankee hotel foxtrot is better than kid A even though I love Kid A. Personally I prefer the wilco album this decade than the radiohead one.

I'm glad you decided to get "Stories", it's such a great album. I'd definitely say it's one of the albums of the decade because, even after listening to it for 9 years, I can still go back to it and it sounds amazing (and for anyone who's still arguing the Radiohead side, Thom Yorke is on this album too!)
