Anyone else glad that 3 of the U.S's largest egos were deflated today?

I love that look on that one guys face when they said Chicago wasn't in the running.

Honestly, as a native Chicagoan, I'm happy we didn't get it. Outside of going to the events in my own backyard, I didn't really see any benefit. Sure, it would've been exciting, and all the pub would've been cool. But it would've been just too chaotic. I can't imagine taking the L to work during those 2 weeks, torture.

But really, Chicago was representing America, so I don't really understand all you Americans overjoyed about this.

Because there was a huge false sense of entitlement riding over this whole event...besides, America got it anyway.

I am yet to see the footage, but I am sure to enjoy it. Must of been a real kick in the guts for Obama.

I'm glad Rio got them. First sth American country to get them.

Olympics are truly an awesome event to host in your city. I'm from Sydney, and it was crazy but unfortunately I won't see it in my home city again.

Hopefully Australia is successful in their bid to host the football world cup. It will be just as exciting.

  • I'm glad it went to Rio. It's a beutiful, exotic city that I've always wanted to visit, and South America has never hoted an Olympics. Japan and teh U.S. have hosted several, but Madrid would have been fine with me too.

  • I was so bummed about Chicago being a no go for the Olympics :( I was already sorta planning the trip and everything. Why did they decide on Rio?

Can't argue with the Rio decision. It's a top 3 on my list of destinations...

But Madrid?? Barca hosted in 1992, so Spain has had the taste before. Don't get me wrong, Madrid is exquisite, but to me, it was between Rio and Chi. And they got rid of Chi early so Rio wasn't a big surprise. Congratd Rio, World Cup and Summer Olympics within 2 years, must be crazy!

Barca did have it in 92 and Atlanta hosted it in 96, so I reckon Rio is good.

Why are you thrilled? Do you get excited when you see other people fail? Does it make you feel better about yourself???

I'm just asking. I know plenty of sad souls who behave like that.

I know Rio is not a representative of Brazil, but where I used to work, I dealt with many Brazilian tourists and the'd tell me how great Chicago is.

While I'm sure Rio has a nice, exotic part, I it is surrounded by slums. Despite its charm and beauty, Rio is reputed to be one of the most violent cities in the world. Much of the violent crime is in the favelas or shantytowns but it also spills into middle- and upper-income neighborhoods. In Rio, unlike other major cities, many of the slums are directly adjacent to some of the wealthiest areas of the city.

Maybe I get excited when I see other people "succeed." I was rooting for the underdog (any underdog).

If the Yankees get knocked out in the ALDS, I'll be happy then, too. Not that they and their fans suffered a loss, but that another team won.

yeah, I'm all for underdogs, too, believe you me! wasn't really following the whole thing. so yay that the underdog got it, but it sucks that its so far away. I was just hoping for Chicago because my mom and dad used to live there and it would be cool to have them go with us and be our tour guide of old Chicago. they lived there back in the 70's.
