I have a very small paved yard out the back of my house. But have a rented allotment to grow veg on about 1/2 mile away.

No it's an area of land you rent from the council to grow stuff on. I will take a picture later and send it to you.

*coughs* apologies momentary diversion ... was talking to some Americans that live here and they said the closest they had was what were called 'victory gardens' but nothing as widespread as here. Think there are a few other countries (partcularly in Europe) that have them. We had one when I was a kid
