Can you take dogs walking on US beaches (there is NO dog beaches, right?)

There are dog friendly beaches, but they're not easy to find. Around here dogs can go on the beaches October through April, and where I live everyone ignores that. California has some fantastic dog friendly beaches as I recall.

Yeah, used to be into it in OZ, but guess what, as I have got older...not so much? :?
I like walking dogs on beaches, pity other people were not thinking same. As long as the poop is taken away, no probs!
