Nitrous oxide, aka "laughing gas." It's what the dentist gives you to knock your ass out while they drill holes in your mandible. Also, college kids inhale balloon-fulls of it to get high.

Have you ever inhaled helium to make your voice sound funny?

    Yes! That's fun as hell!

I thought nitrous oxide is what they put in cars? Nos? Vroom Vroom.
Is it legal in N.Y.? I've been to like 10 different dentists and never got offered. I thought it was only in movies.

Official question: can one of you teleport over here and hold my hand? I'm scared.

    Yes. I'll be there shortly.

Is this just a routine check-up?

First time I been to the dentist in years. Six cavities, a root canal, and one likely extraction. During the cleaning I evicted the needle thing out of my mouth twice and it hurted so bad there was a couple tears that escaped from my eye holes despite my best efforts to stop them. There were a couple yelps whimpers screams involved too. No one offered me nitrous.

Will you come hold my hand next week when I get a couple cavities filled?

Yowsza! That's quite a bit of dental work. I will hold your hand next week.

Do you get a choice of what music to listen to while at the dentist?

There was no music. I might ask if I can have headphones when he does the cavities. At least in one ear.

Will you make me a soothing playlist?

Cavities and root canals are usually done with local anesthesia (commonly a lidocaine injection). If you're afraid of needles (especially the ones used for dental injections) ask for a topical anesthetic at first. This is usually just benzocaine on a cotton swab and it helps numb the surface so you don't feel the needle as much when they inject you.
Surprised they didn't gas you for the extraction, though. They usually fully sedate you for those.

Yes. It shall be loaded with some Pantera, Slipknot, Hatebreed, Lamb of God and many more. It is very soothing.

Is no music at the dentist better than the elevator music they normally play?

My last dentist happily gave me nitrous when I had a filling replaced. He even gave me lidocaine. They had to turn it down because I got the non-stop giggles.
New dentist uses the fancy schmancy sonic cleaner, so no pokey scraping tools.

I agree you should have been given something if you got extractions.

I've never been offered nitrous. A few years back I had to get 3 wisdom teeth extracted and they did what's called "conscious sedation" - basically an IV of morphine and midazolam (a super-short acting benzodiazepine, (like valium). I have a brief memory of saying to myself "so THAT'S why people use this stuff!!" just as I drifted off. Then the next thing I knew, I woke up puking and proceeded to puke nonstop for the next two days. That was my end of my short-lived career as an IV drug user.

I suppose there's a question in there but even degenerates may not want to answer questions about prior IV drug use, so let's go with "have you ever had any anaesthetic beyond local anaesthetic before?"

Just for surgery when I was younger and all I can tell you is I had the same puking thing afterwards. That part I remember well but otherwise it is a lost memory.

Just personal experiences. When it comes to people poking and prodding inside my mouth with sharp instruments, drills, etc., I pay full attention. And I don't like being under the influence of anything other than beer or weed, so I always research any drugs used on me.

As for parasitic songs... right now it's Uptown Funk. I love me some Mark Ronson, but Bruno Mars annoys the holy fucking shit outta me! Yet every time I hear it, I walk around the rest of the day going "DOAT-DOO-DO, DOAT-DOO-DO!"

    Do you own a canoe/kayak/etc?
  • ldent42ldent42 Posts: 7,859
I do not own anything like that. Not even a bogie board.

Also, I think I got my tenses mixed up earlier. I only got the cleaning and evaluation today. He informed me I have six cavities, I need one tooth root-canaled and One tooth is so fucked it's probably gonna have to be removed cuz there's no saving it. I did not have any of that done. The appointment for SOME of the fillings is next week. The root canal and extraction has to be approved by the insurance which will take a few weeks to see if they're able to do it. Several years ago I had all four wisdom teeth extracted because they were impacted. That required me to go to the marshmallow facial surgeon, who's some kind of tooth surgeon above a regular dentist. I was not given IV morphine nor Nitrous laughing gas. I got the benzocaine and the novocaine and that's it. Oh, and fun story, the novocaine got injected into a vein that ran into my face and felt like burning hot lava shooting through my skin. Apparently I'm one in a million. The extraction was extra annoying because one of the teeth had roots that were twisted together, and the other one was shaped like a hook around the nerve in my jaw. It sucked. A lot. If there had been the option to be unconscious for that process, I'd have been allllllllllllll over it. And yes, I did get dry socket. IN ALL FOUR HOLES. My teeth genes are awful. I blame my parents.

Did you have a nice afternoon?

If you call running around trying to get all your errands done in one tafternoon 'nice', then yes.

I believe you can say you're afraid of needles or really anxious and ask if they have anything to take the edge off, they will give it to you.

I'd just like to clear one thing up. EVERY man pays for sex in some way, shape, or form. Everything we ever do in life is an attempt to impress a woman and get in her pants, and it all has a cost.

My mailman doesn't show up until roughly 3:30pm and I can probably count on one hand how many times I've interacted with him in the 9 years I've lived at my current address.

Have you ever bought anything from Etsy?
