Quality of Vinyl

I'm a huge vinyl record fan. Love the sound and the feel of it. Makes me feel a little more connected to the music than a CD or mp3. I was super excited about getting Back Spacer in. I pre-ordered the album and everything. I got it in yesterday and put it on my record player...and something just wasn't right. The songs seem to skip every now and then and the beginning of some songs even sound warped. Has anyone else ran into this problem with the vinyl? Also, was anyone else who purchased the album a little upset that there wasn't a digital download card inside the sleeve? Love the new album, love Pearl Jam, wished I loved the vinyl. Who knows, maybe I just got a "bad" copy.
peace,
Aaron

  • could be your needle or it may not be pressing down on the record with enough pressure. i'm sure someone here can explain the penny-on-the-arm thing better than me.

You should clean it, but that is only gonna help it a very little bit. They dropped the ball on this one.
  • Sounds like your record have some sort of factory defect. Unless somehow it was damaged during shipment. That's too bad about your copy, I haven't been able to stop spinning mine. I hope you can get it resolved/find a new one.

That technique isn't good for your records. If you have to do that to get the record to play correctly you should look into other solutions, like purchasing a new stylus. The penny trick does long-term damage to records by exerting too much pressure and flattening the grooves over time.

  • well my record player is fine..its a numark and works great. i just got the new monsters of folk album (definitely! worth a listen to...jim james of my morning jacket, conor oberst (bright eyes and better and more recently conor oberst and the mystic valley band <favorite band next to pearl jam i might add>, m. ward formerly of bright eyes and now just m. ward, and mike mogis also formerly of bright eyes..) and it spins both vinyls perfectly. i ran into the exact same problem when i got the last polyphonic spree album (fragile army) on vinyl...just like skips and sounds warped ever so often...
