Auf der Maur

Her name is Melissa Auf der Maur. Her credits include bass player for the Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, and has since gone solo. She also, interestingly, put together a Black Sabbath cover band (including Nick Oliveri on bass) called Hand of Doom and released a live cd-I have it, and it's awesome). Her first record, Auf der Maur, was released in 2004 (and includes Josh Homme, Billy Corgan, and Josh Freese performing and/or co-writing). She has an upcoming album, entitled Out Of Our Minds (or OOOM), which actually is quite an interesting concept. It is a "multi-media project, including a cd, comic, and movie all rolled into one.

I've seen her play live (opening for Matthew Good on the Put Out Your Lights tour).

This upcoming package is going to be interesting, and is supposed to be released this fall. Check out her website.

will do. they do all Ozzy-era stuff, except one Dio-era one (The Mob Rules) which Oliveri screams, I mean, sings, lead vocals.

Love her from back in her Hole days......some of the most haunting backing vocals of all time.

i read somewhere that Glen Danzig will do his first ever duet with her on this.

not sure if that is still the plan.

After fumbling their way through a cover of "Hand of Doom," the band decided that the song would serve as a good band name as well. Hand of Doom Live In Los Angeles: Black Sabbath Tribute 2002 Idaho MusicDriven by her genuine love of Black Sabbath and a lack of a band to call her own, former Hole/Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur decided to join her very first tribute band in the winter of 2001. Teaming with guitarist Guy Stevens, filmmaker Joey Garfield, drummer Pedro Yanowitz, and bassist Molly R. Learning several more songs from their catalog, Hand of Doom began playing live around the Los Angeles area in the spring of 2002. Stern, the final lineup was an odd mish mash of musicians that all had one thing in common: their childhood love of Sabbath.

I saw her about ten years ago opening up for The Offspring. Some of the stuff I really liked, others were just cheesy. Some of her recent stuff is pretty good though.

Picked up this CD last week, listened to it every day on the way to work and back home. some good tracks and is the best album I have bought this year so far.
Does anyone know if she will be touring this album in the UK ? would love to see her live show.
  • spinning some Auf der Maur vinyl 7" I got a bit ago of her right now whilest enjoying a Crown with my wife. Kids at the grandparents for the night. Wife and I heading out to a pool party where all the party "favours" are supplied. 36 years old and didn't think I'd be doing this again. Awesome.

  • then you'll be interested to find out that I found there are a few bonus tracks that go along with this album.

    Album pre-order: Mother's Red Box
itunes pre-order: Whispers and Potions, 22 Below (piano version), both available for purchase at 7digital
    Japanese bonus track: V
This Would be Paradise EP: two songs from OOOM, and Willing Enabler, which is not on the album

I have all of these except "V". I'd be willing to share anything that is not available for purchase, but not anything that you can readily buy. PM me if interested.
