Can someone please explain the difference?

Thanks

I have no idea what you are talking about. Are you talking about how Ed says the name "Ben" in the song?

That's a reference to the film called "Ben" about a boy and his pet rat. A funny side note is that this film is a sequel to "Willard" which was nominated for the Eddie award in Best Edited Feature Film at the 1972 American Cinema Editors Awards (Wikipedia rules).

i dunno, i saw it on the setlist. did the rats they played the other night have more of a "ben" ending to it than usual. referring to the michael jackson song.

oh from a setlist? that's pretty cool. didn't know about that. that would be funny as hell if they covered the michael jackson theme song

The end of the song is "Ben the two of us need look no more", taken from the Michael Jackson song. Apparently, Jeff used to cry when he heard the song when he was young. He told Ed and Ed tagged that onto the end of Rats as a reference to it. I guess now Jacko has passed they are using the ending as more of a tag.

But doesn't Eddie usually sing the Ben line in Rats?

I guess I'll have to wait to hear the bootlegs.

ok- if that is true, I love jeff even more...that was the one tune I played over and over even though I had to sneak into my sister's room to get the album.

never heard that before. I know ed said his first favorite band was the jackson 5, so i assumed that the Jacko reference was more b/c of ed...

Yeah he did at the O2 arena show in London - the same place where Jackson would have been in the middle of his residency when PJ played. Ed messed it up, but it was a touching tribute all the same, and the end 'Ben the two of us....' part was pretty powerful.
