Icing on the Cake for Pets

Obviously many of us have dogs, cats, birds etc. What is that little something your pet does that is icing on the cake to having a non-human companion.

Ricky, an english springer spaniel, who died in 1995, was extremely gentle. He was just a beautiful soul. I wished I remembered more about him . . .

My twin's dog, Ceasar, in the picture, is a snuggler. I just lie on a bed, and he burrows under the covers until his body is next to my leg. Cleo, a beagle mutt, is the Marilyn Monroe of dogs. She wants to meet everyone and makes a high pitched noise of anguish if another dog owner (in one case with 3 dogs) goes out of his way so that she can't meet the dogs. Both of us were staring at that dog owner with a WTF? type of expression. Really, why wouldn't you want to meet Cleo?

My brother's dog, Philly, is an incredibly regal mutt. Very stoic, and gentle. Great doggie. :)

And you?

    awwwww...... :D

hmmmm...igby is a ridiculously loving, 'together' dog but for me, that's always desired. what is the icing is, his noises and silliness! seriously, the sounds that eminate outta this little pug, fantastic! also, how he spins rounbd like a little dervish is just hilarious! granted, along with all this come annoyances such as pulling the toilet paper off the roll and hlfway down the hall when he's not getting proper attention, barking incessantly at the tv and sure...irritating our other dog with all his movements....but you gotta take the bad with the good. 8-)

now chloe, is so oppositie of igby. shre is quiet and regal. she is ridiculously compliant, such a good listener and is bred to take direction. while she is not the most affectionate dog, i sitll love her to peices b/c she is just one of those personalities that are a bit 'apart'....and she seems so sensitive for understanding (she had rough beginnings, we adopted her from a shelter and even had some rough times in our home due to our previous dog) so i actually think she has made ME more understanding, and more giving. also, i LOVE to see her run. sometimes she looks like a gazelle, all long legs and graceful...other times, she's just a playful goofball.

now our old kitty suki, she just doens't give a shit....hahahaha. i think i love her simply for her bad-ass attitude. she has made every dog we've had cower and take notice...and stay the hell outta her way. now in her old ages, she accepts igby cleaning her ears. i love how she has trained US to do as she pleases....filling up the water bowls a million times a day b/c she likes fresh water for each drink, when she wants to eat, when we have the gate closed between kitchen/LR (to contain the dogs) she'll meow for us to open/close it for her. :D

  • Snuggliness...if that's a word. ;) This could also be icing in a partner. :D

I really miss having a pet! My husband is allergic to cats, which I love love love. I told him that I'm allergic to everything under the sun (and in the house), and I suffer all year long, so he should be willing to, too. He said if we could start sleeping with the windows open (which usually drives me over the allergy cliff into sheer misery), he'd be willing to get a cat.

My pets always seem to sense when I'm feeling crappy and increase their snuggliness accordingly, lol. It's nice to have something that loves you no matter what, you know?

I don't think i'm made for cats or dogs. I am waiting for the icing on the cake for those pets. I have cats and i want to kill them every morning. I love my iguana though! Silent, cute, and easy to care for!

This is true. I love the buggers but one is a kitten and he wakes me up at 4 every day. Not by physically bugging me but by knocking down everything in the house(or trying to play with the fish in the tank and hiding their food). I do not encourage it nor do i put up with it. I lock his little butt in the bathroom when he does that so i can sleep. My boyfriend said he's not being punished 'cause he thinks it's a spa. Sometimes I'll open the door and he's chillin in the tub.

There are good things....I'm just waiting until he calms down a bit. I think I could have a bigger list here if he was an outdoors cat. The icing is the look on their faces. It feels good to look at something so cute that is looking at you with such love!

When my twin had cats the icing on the cake -

Once when I was standing next to the kitchen table, and one was on the kitchen table, to get my attention she headbutt my back. Intelligent little entity, that's for sure. It worked.

Having owned many dogs, and knowing how short their lives are, every day I have with Petey is *icing on the cake* he makes everyday a blessing for me and my family, and I make each day he has on this planet the best it can be. I don't take one for granted. He is fed the best foods, gets a run everyday, has baskets full of toys, has playtimes, sleeps on a soft bed with a blankie, and is loved with out measure.

    My beautiful hiking companion.

it is punishment, b/c you are confining him and not giving him what he wants...unless what he wants is to be locked in the bathroom.

and personally, i don't think indoor/outdoor makes much difference as to love. if anything, i would think indoor cats would be more 'lovable' simply b/c you have more time/interaction....but either way, there are pros/cons to both. my kitty is indoors.

as to your last statement, i so agree....total icing!
(tho i must say, your kitties have you fooled....kitties love no one :D..it's all a ploy for household domination.  )

a bit of backwards icing with chloe. she is NOT an affectionate dog. she does not like to cuddle. she will allow you to pet her, but on her terms, and she loves having her belly rubbed, but only when she wants it...and will let you know when to leave her the fuck alone. that said, if SHE wants a treat - and she is VERY food-motivated - she will practically kiss you(tho she never gives kisses)...she will bre all over you, in your lap, doing just about anything necessary. sure, it is to get what SHE wants, but the fact that she will subject herself, degrade herself ;).....to do things she is normally so opposed to.....it's just sweetly adorable. she sucks up with the best of em!

Our chinchilla has the charming habit of posing on his hind legs with one front paw on the cage bars as a way to ask for a treat.

It's hard to resist walking over to coo at him when he looks like that!! :D

No, he wants us to play! sucker! not at 4am!!!

I just meant maybe he could get his energy out by being outdoors. He has a ton of it.

My kitty can be the devil. He picks on the old cat like there is no tomorrow and no matter how much it hurts i can't help but laugh when i walk by the bed or the couch(when it's a bed) and he's hiding and his paws shoot out to attack and scare the living daylights out of me, or actually cause me to bleed....

It's nice to know they will do that sometimes! little suckers. They need us even if they like to pretend they're the boss!

chloe os a dog, of a hunting breed...she knows she is NOT the boss. she is very motivated to be compliant and listens very well. she never, ever pretends to be boss. also why we could not get another dog like her or bigger/dominant, b/c she actually is overly-submissive in many ways(part of her puppy issues she suffered thru). thus why we got the ig, a pug....b/c a small dog, she can and does feel the alpha-female, tho she does like igby get away with murder. even ig, tho he likes to push it...he never things he's the boss. unless an extrmemely dominant dog (or a very pussy dog owner, or...both!), dogs rarely do think they are boss. cats always do. and hey, i love both...tho definitely more a dog-person, and after suki - she'll be our last cat for a long, long while...if ever we get another - i just love my dogs, and yea...just so much having 2 dogs, the cat, it gets expensive! suki never sucks up either. she just looks at you and gives these screams of her demands...or just simply circles, circles circles, whatever water bowl she wants filled...until, exasperated, you consent. again tho, while i'd never say i would 'want' such behavior in a pet, it IS icing....b/c she is herself, and she is bad-ass. even at 20. 8-)

I can't say that I know much about Dogs. The last time I lived with one I must have been around 5. All I've known are pets that like to pretend they don't need you. hmmm maybe that says something about me? ;)

I have an iguana(really thinks she's the boss), bearded dragon, fish tank, and two cats. It's overwhelming some mornings feeding them but I LOVE to watch the lizards just inhale all the food I put there happily. That's another little icing. Making sure my little ones are healthy and fed real food, well the lizards get grocery store food. I love it!

WOW what a beautiful dog

My two boys (rescue cats Riley - a funny little fellow who only likes things on his terms and Sykes - a Mummy's boy) are the craziest little mofos i've ever known :D Given half a chance Riley will eat plastic bags, Sykes eats the washing up sponge, they love cuddles at night, eating spiders and grass hoppers and have the biggest purrs in the world. They love playing with ping pong balls, their toy kitty (that Riley carries around in his mouth) and are completely devoted to the blanket my mum knitted for them!

I've never known cats to be as loyal and loving as they are before, it's awesome :D

Well we just got our first dog after being cat people for the first 12 years of our co-habitation. The look I get when I come in the room to walk him in the AM is such a true expression of love. Now I think it is my ability to give the best ear rubs, but it feels like love. He shoves all the kids out of the way to get to me.
