For me, Silent Alarm, is their best, and one of my favorite albums of all time.
Agreed.

agreed, again
wrong, youd be better off saying that its your favourite album, as opposed to saying its their best. because its pretty well documented it isnt.
It's too inconsistent to be their best.
Yeah, but that would be really dull wouldn't it? I'm confident it's by far their best, obviously that's a subjective opinion, but I'm not sure how much more objective the 'documented' view would be. Do you mean the consensus seems that Silent Alarm is their best? Most people whose musical judgement I trust think Intimacy is streets ahead of the debut.
To be more specific, I prefer Intimacy because I find Silent Alarm tinny, formulaic 'indie', with fairly weak lyrics. I thought the lyrics on Weekend in the City were far better, but the tunes were weaker and it didn't work as a piece.
Intimacy, with the addition of Talons, Flux, Letter to my Son and Your visits are getting shorter; (which they released around it in various formats and I believe makes up the complete picture) hits both spots brilliantly for me. The lyrics are superb, the singing is better, and the overall sound richer. They have incorporated the more rave-based elements in a much more integrated way than on the previous lp (where they often appeared tacked on), and the album as a whole has a balance of really moving tragic confessional sounding songs (Biko, Signs, Letter to My Son), great classic indie rockers (Halo, Talons, Better than Heaven), as well as unique standalone tunes like Ares and Ion Square which are at opposite ends of the spectrum; the former being a satire on 21st macho posturing and the latter becoming one of my favourite ever love songs; capturing a perfect moment 'trapped in amber', a beautiful sense of completeness, which is even more tragic when undermined by the decaying relationships in the rest of the album.
At the end of the day though, personally I think it works, and works on many more levels than silent alarm which was painfully trendy but said nothing new. Intimacy shows Kele Okereke to be a deep and evolving spirit who I'm certain will have a lot more to say over the coming years.
Anyway, I will listen to Silent Alarm again, but I think Intimacy is a far more rounded work, and a hell of a lot deeper with it.

Im in the minority, but my favorite is A Weekend in the City. Love the lyrics and Im a sucker for moody rock, which is what alot of it is.
I do think Intimacy is waaaaaaaay underrated. Great album. Both Talons and Signs are 2 of my all time favs of theirs.
Great live band too.
