not that it had any real competition, or that it matters.

  • I wouldn't say going without a label was successful, they sold 189,000 copies of this album to be #1. Self Titled sold 279,000 first week and was #2 that year.

For PJ it is successful because they make $5 per album as opposed to $1 or $2 per if they went with a major label, but I never thought it was about the money for PJ so I still don't see this as a huge success. They got lucky that nothing is out there against it. A better success would be to get more copies of this album in peoples hands and develop new fans to your core base.

This album in my opinion is worlds better than Self Titled yet sold almost 100,000 less it's first week and that is with PJ being played on ESPN all the time, all the interviews they've done, a music video and just more accessible than ever before and with all of that STILL sold less than a lesser album (Self Titled). I can only attribute this to Target and the clusterf**k they made out of this release. I can only hope that 2nd week sales do not drop off considerably and that the album has staying power in the weeks to come...

absolutely not, no how no way. PJ is my life, then comes food and water to survive...
  • Recession, increased job loss, and overall economic downturn may have a impact on this. I know $20 isn't much to cough up for a CD but some people are definately finding it harder to make ends meet let alone afford a CD. Based on some of the sales figures it does appear that the above statement is a giant leap but could be part of it. I had to make the decision to buy a concert ticket or bus pass - my legs will eventually forgive me! :?:

Technically they sold over a million copies as they get paid when the store buys them....not when the consumer buys them. #1 bitches!

we need to keep it in the top 10 next week. Next weeks chart is not looking so good. So if you're reading this. And haven't bought a copy. Stop buying those cigarettes. At least 2 packs and buy an album. And instead of making a copy for your friend/family. Buy them one. If they don't have money.

I love the album. But when the hell did PJ and their fans become Britney and give a rat's ass about chart success?

My guess is the band don't. Just you. If being at the top of the charts mean something to you, I guess you own the Titanic soundtrack.

The band dont? thats the funniest thing i've ever heard. why do you thing they're making the rounds now and playing it right? because they own it now. you always work harder for yourself than you work for other people. they care. it's about legacy now.
