NIN calls it quits?

I was reading in last months Rolling Stone that at one of the NIN concerts Reznor commented how he was gett too old for touring and that this was the end.
Does anyone else know about this? Is it pure conjecture or his he serious?
I tried finding if anyone else was talking about this through search but found nothing.

Trent performed farewell shows in NY, Chicago and L.A. The last show was at the Wiltern on Sept 10...they played 3 hrs 20 minutes!

Every interview for the past 2 years or so, he has stressed, his frustrations with the record industry, but also his desire to create something and build something different.
His view of what needs to be done to create an industry that respects and treats artists with the dignity and humanity that they deserve, is indeed the way of the future.
His music has always been special, but more to the point, his view of the industry and the music buisness, seems light years ahead of anyone else. So while, I am eagerly awaiting a new record, I most want to see how in the future he decides to release said music, and see if he becomes an entreuprenuer of sorts and creates a new record label that does just what I mentioned.
It's a gaming blog and so goes the interview, but for those who have some time, it goes deeper than you might think:

Oh please, if you even had a passing interest in music you would have heard about this - it was announced months ago! What's more, if I was genuinely trying to find out information I would do a 2 second google search on the subject rather than starting a thread on the Pearl Jam message board! I don't mean to be a dick, and I'm not annoyed, so much as baffled by it - very much common knowledge as far as I'm concerned. Hell, even one of my mates who knows next to nothing about music, asked me if I had heard that NIN were calling it quits.

the touring is done for the foreseeable future, but i feel it will happen again.

Noel Gallagher quit Oasis?
Where have you been?! It's pretty old news.
Seriously, it's true, and I've just this minute heard a rumour that Michael Jackson has died!
though i really would like to see pretty hate machine all cleaned up.
dick !

see that's the thing...i dont care AT ALL about oasis...so i honestly didnt know this.
the OP seems to like NIN, so i find it odd that they didnt know.
TR's been talking for over a year that he was going to end touring NIN. However at many of the last few shows (I got to see 3 of the final shows plus 4 back in May/June) things such as 'don't kill yourselves yet, we aren't going to stop making music'. The guy just needs a break and wants to try some other stuff and maybe have some family life. In the meantime we have quite a bit of new NIN to pore over with a fine tooth comb. Ghosts is still new to me despite having listened to the pieces many times.

Look, man. Not all of us are able to follow along with every single announcement from every single band that we like. So what if I didn't see this until I was reading a two month old magazine...that is in no way a way to judge my interest in music. You would do a 2 second goolge search...good for you. Guess what? Not everyone is you, though and some people would rather post a question on a musical forum because, you know, it is music related and there just might be other people who weren't aware of it that might see the topic.
You may be "baffled" that someone who likes NIN didn't already know this, but I'm "baffled" that someone can overreact so much from a simple question. Not to mention, that by posting this, I also learned another tidbit that I wouldn't have already known because I don't have the time to follow other people's tweets. (i.e that The Fragile is being remastered)
So, I fail to see how you fail to see how this topic isn't beneficial. Maybe it isn't to you, but I didn't post it for you.
Exactly the point I was trying to make to him earlier, and I also learned about the Fragile remastering, which I didn't previously know either. So thanks for the topic!

So making an off the cuff "where have you been?' comment is overreact(ing) so much'? Since when?! It was meant as a light-hearted comment as I said in one of my other posts, I was just surprised that a fan hadn't heard about it, when it's been the only notable bit of news about NIN since before the summer. Judging by the fact you post on here I would have presumed you were exposed in some way to music news - evidently not, my bad, sorry.
Maybe if that was your only comment it wouldn't have been taken as overreacting. It would've remained neutral and allowed me to explain that I haven't been able to keep up with music news for a while due to other life requirements. But when you add in hyperbole like "...if you even had a passing interest in music you would have heard about this ..." that just puts people on the defensive and not in a position to respond very kindly.
I understand that it might seem credulous to some, so I thank you and accept your apology. I just don't have the time I used to to browse the internet and these forums to keep myself updated. So, unfortunately some news tidbits are going to slip by me.
Ah well it's all cool from my end, just seemed an odd way to find info to me, questions go unanswered for ages on here, there were faster ways of finding out the info you were seeking. And more to the point, you missed out on the Wave Goodbye tour!!!!!! I managed to catch their show in London, and it was immense!! Like I said before though, I reckon they will tour again in a few years when Trent's had a well deserved rest.
From today's nin.com - TR:
"We're beginning work on a variety of things NIN and not-NIN related that we'll inform you of when the time is right. Check back from time to time and who knows what you'll find."
http://www.nin.com/?id=87116
Yeah, I'm not too happy that I missed out on the tour...but the closest they've ever came to me that I know of was Minneapolis and sometimes I just can't afford to make it out there.
I thought Trent was still making music but just not under the name Nine Inch Nails...?
That's how I understood it...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
Yeah I'm pretty fortunate to live where I do, I'm about an hour's train journey from London, and pretty much any band that's gonna tour the UK will play London. It always blows my mind when I see people from the US and Canada talking about driving 12 hours to see a band - I could pretty much drive to Scotland and back in that time, and to be fair, there are very few bands I would do that for; in fact I think Pearl Jam would be the only one.
