Backspacer chart staying power

I know my story is antecdotal, and therefore relatively meaningless, but I feel Backspacer may retain a high position in the album charts even into its second and third weeks. I've been "spreading the jam", telling everybody I know how this album is great, and that even non-PJ fanatics will like it. I normally just kind of keep to myself when a new PJ record comes out, b/c the songs in the recent past have been so politically controversial, I just didn't want to go there. I think the fact that this album avoids that pitfall will allow it to penetrate demographics that their last several albums have not. people who I've turned onto the album have really liked it, and I think word of mouth will keep it afloat for a while. especially if they release more singles quickly.

We'll see, but the recent track record is not great, and next week's competition is strong. "Pearl Jam" fell from #2 to #8 in its second week, and was out of the top 25 by the sixth week. "Riot Act" fell from #5 to #36 in its second week, and was out of the top 100 (!) by the sixth week.

Next week, I would expect Pearl Jam to fall behind Jay-Z as well as debuts from AFI, Alice in Chains, Paramore, Mariah Carey, Breaking Benjamin, Miranda Lambert, Madonna, Barbra Streisand and possibly Selena Gomez. (Foreigner has a Wal-Mart exclusive that shouldn't be underestimated, either, in light of what that did for AC/DC.)

Having said that, I'd look for a fall from #1 to somewhere between #10 and #12.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

I wonder how well AIC's new album will do. Madonna's hits cd is out also.

They're # on itunes. I wonder how much of the sales were from itunes compared to Target and indie stores?

I thought the charts on the iTunes store was just iTunes sales rankings.
"All I Ever Knew" available now in print and digital formats at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks.
  • depends a lot on the next single. undoubtedly it will be Speed of Sound and the album will tank, cuz thats how PJ likes it! :)
  • It will fall out fast.

unfortunately it will have the staying power of Hugh Hefner after his 37th bunny party in a row and he's so exhausted he's forgotten where the key is to his Viagra stash.

    for clarification... no staying power.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

The reviews are fantastic for the AIC album and it is an awesome album. I suspect it will sell more than Backspacer did in its first week and be #1 easy.
