    What's wrong with promoting Dave?

  • i dont have anything against promoting him, i just didnt want to get into a forum fight with someone who thinks matt cameron or any other drummer that has been in the band is better. i respect all the Pearl Jam drummers equally, and they are all great players.
  • Great interview. Thanks for sharing. It's ashame Ed was such an asshole back then. Granted I wasn't there for any of it but from what i have read, Dave celebrated and welcomed his fame and Eddie insisted they fight it. I'm glad the early/mid 90's Eddie is long gone.

Amen to that. It's like Dave A was where Ed projected his anger. Dave A just rubbed him the wrong way. I know I've see other relationships in my life like this. Where someone just doesn't like someone else so they are always a dick to that person. Hell... I even do it to my roommates girlfriend who always has her damn dog at my apartment dripping its dog cunt juice on my couch.

Dave should have stepped back and tried to win Ed over. Bake him a vinyl or something.

yeah no shit! There was a fade when he started to talk about how most of Vitalogy came from live jams and there was a fade right at the end when he was talking about how they didn't want him to learn Ten...they just wanted him to play. I hope they upload the whole thing.

  • Wasn't he voted out by the whole band and not just Ed ...

It's generally acknowledged it was Ed's fault. But anyway, no offense to Dave, but I'm glad it happened. Pearl Jam became a better band for it.

Hell, Pearl Jam might not even still be a band if Dave had stayed.

Wasn't he voted out by the whole band and not just Ed ...

There had to be an agreeance off course, but it had Eddies fingerprints all over it. Stone was reportedly in tears when he told Dave about the decision. It was either Eddie or Dave that had to go I think, and Dave was easier to replace.

Yeah... I believe I remember reading that it was Stone and Matt who were sent to deliver the message and Ed was just absent. It's always been a foggy topic and one we'd all love to hear the "Behind the Music" about. It is cool to see Dave with such a positive attitude all the time even with that having happened. He seems like a super nice guy. Always has.

It seems like he and Ed were on different energy wavelengths and the latter wavelength that PJ has been on fit with Eds desires more. Could Ed have always given it the energy he gave in the times when Dave A was driving the tempo with his wildly aggressive drum style? Who knows. Maybe not.

First off, I doubt anyone on this board dislikes Dave. He is an important part of this band we all love so much. With that said, I would never say I hate 90's Eddie, or that I wish Dave hadn't been kicked out, because if Ed hadn't made the decisions he made back then, and the rest of the band, Pearl Jam almost certainly would not be around anymore, and they probably never even would have put out Yield (aka the best record of all time).

So I mean, what happened had to happen for Pearl Jam to continue, and for them to still be playing amazing shows to this day. And I give Dave major respect for talking about it, being positive, and coming to terms with all of the great things that came out of those 3 or so years where he was on top of the world. Hopefully someday there can be some sort of public kiss and make up, and we can close that chapter with a happy ending.

thanks for posting. he seems like a great guy, and as a drummer myself, he is a big influence. his accenting and cymbal usage was quite unique during the Pearl Jam years. i'm glad he's out playing live again and would love to see him with his new project.

just as pearl jam would not be where they are today had dave stayed in the band, they would not have become the band they did without him. he was an extremely important part of Pearl Jam's evolution, which continues to this day.
