I have a Direct Tv question--please help

I just recently switched from Comcast to Direct Tv as the price for Comcast was a bit high. We got a deal (wife and I) for Direct Tv that was considerably lower. The problem is that even though I live in Massachusetts, I live closer to Rhode Island than Boston. Consequently, we lost all of our Boston channels and now can only get Rhode Island channels. I called up to complain and see if we can get switched to Boston, but they said due to our zip code that we can only get the Rhode Island channels. Someone was telling me that there is an antenna, maybe an on-air antenna that will allow me to get the Boston channels for free? Anyone know any of this or went through something similar in your market?

Thanks.

Your SOL. My parents live near Springfield and can't get Boston news channels They have been fighting with them for years. You will have to get an antenna with a switch. It really isn't that bad and it beats paying $150 a month for cable. I live in a valley so I can't get hi-def through DirectTv. I had to switch to cable and HATE it. Good look, setting up the antenna is pretty easy from what I hear and you get it in hi def now.

Jecica--do you know specifically what type of antenna and how do you install it? They never said we'd lose Boston channels when we switched from Comcast.
  • You need to look for a very powerful off air antenna. I used to have Direct TV and when the Providence locals weren't in High Def that's what I used and I was 15 miles from Providence. It actually would pick up some of the Boston stations but since I'm on the South Coast it was too far away. I believe that "Boston" stations aren't really in Boston. I think channel 5 is off of 128.

You made the right move. I HATE Comcast. I switched when I lost my job to bundle everything together and I've regretted it everyday since. Once I find a new job I'll pay the $250 to get out of it and go back to the dish. I miss the NFL Package.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me.

The antenna will plug into the back off the box. You have to go to your set up screen and scan for off air channels.

Just go to radio shack and tell them what you need to do. They will get you everything. My parents had a antenna installed on their roof so I think that is a bit much and I don't know the brand. I have a small one in our attic and that does the trick, it was there when we moved in. I know, I am no help.

the antenna is prob. the easy way to be honest.

with that being said, i know of some people that live in KY and get our Cincinnati local Ch. from direct t.v. because they are in some strange limbo zone. they have to pay 5 bucks extra a month to get the Cincinnati ch.
and it took them lots of bitching to get it done.

    good luck.
    Peace, Love.
