Why is Boom not credited on "Backspacer"?

I'm wondering why Boom is not credited at all on Backspacer. I'm sure he plays on several tracks, but gets not even an additional musician credit like on "Pearl Jam" in 2006.

How sure are you? he's not on this record. I heard he's putting out a solo album under the name "Boomerang"

    He's better. Probably alot better.
  • I can't look at it now, but isn't Boom in that "behind the scenes" video during the recording of BS? I could have sworn I saw him in that. . . I may be wrong though.

I think I read somewhere that O'Brien simply likes to play keys on any album he produces.

Brendans presence on BS is pretty big. I also think he is somewhat responsible for making Unthought Known the great song it is. The piano works so well in there.

  • Sort of off topic but I thought it was piano at first so it reminded me here, is there a xylophone on force of nature? And if so is that Brenden too? whatever it is, it sounds great

well he isn't even officially in the band so.....

I think it is shitty he tours with them, gets fucking solos but no credit...maybe he doesn't want it.

as a somewhat related aside -- Who do you think lays down the wicked Cowbell Track on Force of Nature?!?!?
    [sic] happens
  • yeh why can't pj give credit where credit is due. I want to know every additional instrument played on every track! Maybe we can use this thread to figure it out. Even as far back as Vs. Brendan never did that, I know he played organ on Indifference, and I think he might of even played a guitar part on Daughter (probably false). I do know that Jeff didn't play bass on Do the Evolution or No Way, so probably Brendan did. I bet O'Brien can be heard on 90% of the backspacker tracks.....

they should bring brendan out on tour. he totally nails love reign o'er me. makes boom look like a rookie musician.

According to Mike, Brendan makes them all look like rookie musicians.

  • Brendan O'Brien did come out and play the keys on Black in Las Vegas for the 10th anniversary show. I am almost certain he went on the 2006 tour to mix the bootlegs in real time so they could go online the same night of the show. He played the bass on I Got Id but I think Stone played the bass on Do The Evolution.

Yeh, you might be right about DTE.
  • I've always thought that it was strange when PJ started including Boom in their publicity shots so far into the life of the band - why should he get to become part of a legendary band at the point? He's best kept a touring member and that's it. I think not including him on the album was a conscious choice to make him understand his actual role in the band - that of a touring musician.

I doubt there was some big disagreement with Boom and this was to 'put him in his place.'

And I could be wrong, but I don't recall any official promo shots with Boom in this.

I remember reading that. I would imagine BO'b is just one of those guys that can pick up any instrument and play it well.

I love the xylophone(?) on Force of Nature. It almost has an eastern vibe to it.
