To me it's just OK. I was expecting more from it than OK. I was even over the whole "it's not Layne anymore, hence it's not AiC" and was just looking forward to some thumping rock. And there is that. But it also feels unfocused as a lot of you have said. Sometimes it feels like they've created (and overproduced) a sonic onslaught just for the sake of having the songs feel big or soaring or whatever. It doesn't quite work for me.
Not saying it sucks, but next time, I'd hope for more focus and overall songs that don't just wobble along.
I don't think it breaks any new ground, but it's very much an Alice in Chains record and I dig it. I saw them live with William a handful of times in 2006 and 2007 and he brings it live... I'm very happy with the new record and am glad that Jerry, Sean and Mike have found someone they trust to carry on with the AIC name and sound. Can't wait for them to come to Florida so I can see them live again!!

Ok, I was hesitant on buying this disc thinking they couldn't pull it off without Layne. But I picked it up last night after hearing the single a couple of times on the radio. After giving it a couple of spins at work I think it is a solid rock album. Although my pet peeve with the band from when Layne was on lead vocals still holds true, Jerry over-sings on backup. I understand harmonizing, but I think Jerry pushes too much on this.
Overall I'm glad I picked it up, better late then never, and now have two great rock albums to compliment Backspacer, Them Crooked Vultures and AIC.
