My family has been getting harassing phone calls from a payphone in Chicago. Ive tried the police and searching all over the internet. Anyone know of any secretive way of tracking down a phone number?

Any help would be great.

    *69????

i think payphones come up unavaliable on caller id's, you can contact your phone company and have them block all "unavaliable" calls.

as far as tracing it, not too sure about that. do you even live anywhere near chicago? how many times has this happened?

maybe find out what type of pay phone it is and call the phone company that handles it?

I would think the Police would be able to find the person fairly easily if they really wanted to - if it is in a public place there has to be video camera's somewhere in the area.

also you have answered these calls or do they just leave messages? I guess depending on what type of calls they are and how unstable you might think the person is you could always answer the next call and warn them that you have contacted the police and that they know who you are and will be in touch.

At the very least if they are leaving messages save them all so you can evidence against them in the future. not sure what the law would say regarding taping them from your home without their knowledge should you answer the call.

Yeah, my first thought was the phone company. It's going to be a very low priority for police unfortunately unless it's somehow tied to some other activity but phone companies don't like things like that because it costs them money. They will usually do more to track it down. They can also tell you more about whether or not it's part of a pattern of similar calls from the area, in which case THEY will take it to law enforcement.

Have you called your provider and reported it? They should be the ones who figure out who owns the pay phone, not you, I would think. Sheesh, there aren't that many pay phones anymore.

  • Thanks everyone. I actually have the phone number, it showed up on my cell phone ID. Its a local number and I have tracked it down to a payphone, but I cannot get the location of the phone itself.

    Thanks again to all.

why not call it back and hope someone other than the prank caller picks up. you can ask that person what the location of the pay phone is.

    just a thought
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
    Sammi: Wanna just break up?
