"Wonderland pulling Alice in the hole"
This is pretty much the only mention of the female in this song.
Could "wonderland" be whats pulling the woman away from the man?
Meaning- is wonderland the "grass is always greener" kinda thing?

The song is about a man who loves a woman with a drug problem or some other such issue. In Alice in Wonderland, Alice takes a drug that allows her to go to Wonderland. I think what the "no Wonderland" line in FON is saying is that the man can't bring himself to follow her ... he doesn't want to get dragged down, too. All he can do is wait by the shore and wait for her to come home. He will be the rock when she decides to come back, but he can't go after her.
Or something like that.
for the least they could possibly do
So, I really like this story. I didn't realize when I read the lyrics that it was about addiction. I thought it was two passionate people.

Because in the lyrics book the word "No" is on a different line, right after a comma, so I think its referring to the statement before it- the common man he dont stand a chance
Im not saying youre right or wrong- but is it possible the the word No is part of a different line therefore having the opposite meaning of what youre saying?

I suppose it could be ... but Ed frequently bleeds one line into another that way.

but she won't take the rope.
Right. Isn't that what I said?
Or are you just speaking generally?
for the least they could possibly do
A perfect example is on Wish List.
"I wish I was the sentimental ornament you hung on the Christmas Tree, I wish I was the star that went on top".
Christmas tree being to "no". You can pick it up much easier on Wish List but I think its the same thing where the "no" applies to both statements.
...thats pretty good...cant argue with that.

If a woman was *called up* to war how would the song look different? I still think it's a love song of two passionate people doing their thing, who probably have exchanged the activity/waiting scenario between themselves numerous times. It's the man's time to wait, and they both expect that she will return.

Then Ed must not have done a very good job. Because that's what he says it's about.
“It's about the strength of one person in the relationship, when they can withstand some of the faults in another – maybe drug addiction, or straying off the path. The person in the song is the lighthouse for the other person caught in the storm.”

It still can be read as a love song, I suppose. The man in the song is hoping (against hope, maybe) that love will be enough to save her.
