Portland show: How long to get out of the venue?

Hello,
I posted this over on The Porch but realized it was better suited for this forum.
I wrote this little ode to the Clark County Amphitheater's parking and traffic woes -- a Pearl Jam traffic report -- on my Oregonian blog Friday:
http://blog.oregonlive.com/commuting/20 ... end_t.html

The bike plan worked perfectly. My friend and I were the only ones with bikes at the arena. Crazy.

After the show, we rolled out of the parking lot, past the line up of cars and an unbelievably long line for the C-Tran shuttle, took a couple back roads under the glimmering stars and half moon to our parked car and were home within 15 minutes.

How long did it take everyone to get out of the parking lost last night? My question to everyone else: How long did it take everyone to get out of the parking lost last night?

Thanks for your help.

I'll post a link to my full report and show review on my blog on Monday.

  • We did VIP parking and were out in like, maybe 5-10 minutes. It's just shitty you have to pay for VIP though. Sonsabitches.

That totally sucks. That place is just a joke when it comes to traffic. You'd think all the freaking farmers in the area could live with the traffic once in a while and let us take the back roads. Its just a clusterfuck and that's an understatement.
  • I stayed parked at Jollies. Took about 15 minutes to walk there once I left the gates of the venue. Then I was on the freeway (134th on-ramp) in about 4-5 minutes.

    Very nice strategy.

Any other tales to add to the story?

  • Joe - nice chatting with you before the show. I too was in the VIP parking area and we breezed right out in about 5-10 minutes...it was great.

It worked well. Had a couple of beers and met a few people at the pre-party get together, so I didn't feel like I needed any $9 beers inside the venue. Jollies is a bar/truck stop so there is a big parking lot and they were cool with letting people stay parked, but if every show their parking lot got packed with concert goes, they might start having issues.

Premier Parking. Was on the freeway about 20 minutes after deciding to leave the parking lot. From I-5 heading Northbound we drove past the Amphitheater and saw the sea of cars slowing trying to herd out of the general parking lots.

Glad I ponied up for the Premier Parking.
  • 15 minutes to highway. We had four in our carpool so took advantage of the "YES" carpool lot. One just needs to print off a parking pass from the amphitheater web site. Free and as quick as VIP, it looks like. Cheers!

Being new to the venue and PJ tourists, we got stuck in Lot B. Going in was easy. Leaving was tough. We arrived back at the car back at 11:20 p.m. and finally got to the freeway at 12:05. 45 minutes in a slowly moving rental car is a downer after such an amazing show. Oh well, at least I know how to get in and out of Gibson Amphitheatre.

    14 - 10/16 Detroit, 20 Milwaukee (YIELDED), 22 Denver
    16 - 8/20 Wrigley #1
    18 - 8/18 Wrigley #1 (40th show!), 8/20 Wrigley #2
  • I got stuck in Lot B as well. After 30ish minutes of not moving at all, cars just started pouring out the east end. We didn't remember an exit there but when we got to it we saw that some smart, strong souls had moved two of the big rocks that lined the lots and we were home free after that! Thanks to whoever did the emergency landscaping!
  • we parked in jollies across the freeway. Took 20 minutes to walk over there but we rolled right out of there. No hassle.
