Yep, not going tonight to see Bad Religion and NOFX.
Have to get up early to fly west to a work training session.
Plus I cannot move due to gym work.
Oh wells, $75 down the drain.

I bought Violent Femmes tickets and Jethro Tull tickets for the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in the late 90's.

    Tull show was great.

Checked the tickets for the Violent Femmes a few weeks later and realized the show had just past and I missed it. Total bummer.
  • Mm Hmm: PEARL JAM, Boston, 2006!

I was thrilled to find a decent seat on Ticketmaster (my membership had lapsed again.) I lived much closer to the Mansfield venue (1998, 2000, 2003) than the actual city of Boston. If this show had also been at Mansfield, I would have been there.

I was in college. I had an important test that evening, so I couldn't ditch. By the time I got home and had some food, it was awfully late to be heading to the show. It was already dark outside, and the eerie summer weather was producing lightning. I hated driving. Worse, I had never driven to Boston. I wrote down directions from the internet. Crowded cities with their complicated one-way streets scare the hell out of me. If I made zero mistakes and did not get lost, I would still have been late. From the few other concerts I had been to in my life, I knew there would probably be a long backup of bumper-to-bumper cars waiting to park at the venue. It seemed likely that if I got there at all, I would miss half the show. Then I'd have to get right back in my car and try to find my way home. In the dark, in the storms, in a city I'd never driven in.

I was exhausted. I went to bed.

Adam, my Sister, and The Fire had been the emotional dominants in my life that summer. Music, even from my favourite band in life, did not compare. I'm sorry, PJ.

I spent $65 for my unused ticket in 2006. I sold it on eBay last year, in a lot with several stubs, for about $15.

    But Pearl Jam Lives!!!

I will experience them again this Thursday. Lucky me, falling in love back in 1992 with the only grunge band who would ever make it to 2009!

Street Dogs, just a couple weeks ago - I didn't have work coverage for the next morning.
Henry Rollins - a few months ago - had been putting a lot of extra time in my work as was basically too exhausted to do the 3 hour drive there and back. Very sorry to have missed both.

    Over the summer I was going through numerous tickets stubs I've collected over the years and came across these unused ones;

Iron Maiden 1987 I remember buying the ticket but I don't recall why I missed the show maybe I was snowed out.

INXS 4 tickets I have no recollection of buying or even knowing to go to the show 5 rows back front and center and I was crazy about the band back then 1988 I think?

Metallica ...And Justice For All Tour couldn't get out of work to save my life saw them though when they returned.

RUSH Test For Echo Tour opening day for my traveling softball team and being captain I couldn't miss that night. The only tour I've missed since Grace Under Pressure.

I did have an occasion back in school where I was hanging outside of a hotel in Hampton Va. Out of a limo steps Rick James walks up to me and my friends says what's up I told him don't have any money/tickets to his show and that we're in school. We yak some more about what we were studying and he then told his assitant to hook em up and he was off. The assistant gave us passes backstage full access passes to this sold out show. We had to enter from the backstage security area and we were in to wonder anywhere in the show we even got to see soundcheck with Teena Marie, it was awesome.

Oh Jeez more times than I care to remember .... always through illness, working away, travel issues etc.
The most recent one was U2 at Hampden in August. My car broke down on the motorway and I spent the night waiting on a recovery truck to arrive and tow the car back to Edinburgh with us in it.
The next day I read a review that the gig was rubbish. :?

  • pearl jam - ft. lauderdale '96...it was my senior year of high school and i convinced my then boyfriend and a couple of his friends to buy tickets the summer before school started. oh to my surprise when i get a class schedule and there's something scheduled for the evening of the show...something that if i missed, i'd get dropped a letter grade in that class...which would throw off my class ranking. so...i didn't go...all b/c my teacher was an ass and i didn't want the head cheerleader to take my number 5 rank. if i only knew then that that wouldn't really matter in the grand scheme of things...sigh.

Too many times! Last one being Pearl Jam in Manchester. But I'd won 10c lotto tickets to SBE, and could only afford the time off to go to one, so SBE won out. College projects & exams usually were the cause in the past few years, ive missed a whole bunch, the worst ones being: Parliament in august, Dr Dog, EITS, Jason Isbell, Deerhoof, Wilco in 07, Xavier Rudd, DJ Yoda, The Streets, Stereolab, Loaded. They all played great small venues too.

I work the odd night too so i end up missing tons of local gigs that i plan to see...there are some great Irish bands that i keep missing who all play in my area: The Redneck Manifesto, Chequerboard, 3epkano, Villagers & The Jimmy Cake..... ah well, i got to about 3-4 big shows a month so it all evens out!

They'd all have been great nights, but theyre only gigs.

  • I purchased $10 lawn tickets for The Killers because Wolfmother was the opener. I enjoyed Wolfmothers set and promptly left (to me The Killers are like some horrible unlistenable 80's band). I did not anticipate the shit storm we caused by trying to leave. Some venue employees couldn't believe we were leaving before The Killers and were giving us a hard time. Then some Killers fans who were entering as we were trying to leave took issue with the fact that we were there for Wolfmother and not The Killers. Anyways that's as close as I've come to buying tickets and not attending the show.

Nine Inch Nails in 1999 (on my 21st birthday, no less). I was sick with Crohns at the time, and I couldn't make it. :(

I still have the ticket stub at home in a frame.

  • Green Day at the Milton Keynes Bowl a few years back (the one where they recorded the Bullet in a Bible DVD).

I have ongoing back problems and had a "flare up" a week or so before the show. Had to resign myself to the fact that standing/sitting on a grassy hill wouldn't be good for me, so had to sell my tickets.

I was quite looking forward to it too.

Have to say though, since then I haven't been that keen on the stuff they've released, so maybe it was a sign...
