Supersonic = Mankind?

I really, really like Supersonic. I think it's my favorite song of Backspacer. It makes me strangely HAPPY to listen to it.

But I thought the guitar part, especially at the beginning, sounded familiar. About 8 seconds in, there's a downshift that sounded particularly familiar. At first I thought it was from Hail Hail, but then I figured it out - it's Mankind. The Stone Gossard-penned Supersonic sounds a lot like the Stone Gossard-penned Mankind.

Anyone else spot this?

    TOTALLY. There is an unusual chord change that is the exact same interval as mankind. Both Gossard penned. . . ..

    ha ha, yeah, i guess people are just excited about this new record, but every thread lately is just another backspacer thread discussing the exact same stuff that is in the million other backspacer threads. we just need a generic "Discuss anything and everything to do with backspacer in this thread" thread.

    Yeah i was trying to figure Supersonic out on guitar and then my fingers started to play Mankind. I was like "holy crap, this is like Mankind." lol

    Yeah, maybe. I generally don't mind people posting something that's been posted before. I'm not the kind to jump in with "search function."

    But this has been posted ad naseum for like the last month. Not a big deal, I guess.
