Anyone else a little nervous at all the "indpendent" actions of Pearl Jam? Matt Cameron releases a Jazz Cd, Jeff releases his solo, Stone is playing with other people, Mike is doing random benfit stuff all the time, and Eddie just finished his solo tour not too long ago. Yes, each member has done stuff similar to this before, but why all of a sudden, and why all around the same period of time, when a new album is supposed to be coming out in the next couple years? Either Ed said "uhh, Liam and I are gonna make a few records...let's take a few off" or the band maybe lots it's creative ability, and is trying to anchor it back. Usually when a band is "working on a record" they don't all go off on there own and do their own thing. Guys, I'm scared. Has Eddie got too big for his briches? Is Pearl Jam collapsing? After all, Eddie did say during Mansfield II this year "It's getting hard . . .things are tough." I love Pearl Jam and do not easily write this, but if anyone has optomistic feedback about the band's future, I'd love to hear it. At the very least, I think it's safe to say that it's going to be awhile before we see the band singing new songs...a very long time.

dont worry about it. they have, like you said always done their own thing. and thank god they do!! otherwise the band would not have made it this long!! there will be a new record within a year. ;)

  • Not that I'd believe anything 100% that I hear on the radio, but here in Seattle on 107.7 the afternoon DJ casually mentioned that they're back in the studio working on a new album. I'm sure everything will be fine, my friend. :) And it is good for them to do stuff outside of PJ; gets those creative juices flowing even more IMHO.

And yes (to everyone), I know the radio blows, but sometimes it's just on. :D

Well, if you ask me sounds like a huge infedility........what the heck?? But seriously I think that it is cool they are doing other things because I felt sorry for them when Eddie went on his own and I have a big thing for Eddie's writing, words, music, etc. as well as respect but I did wonder what they were all doing at home while Eddie was touring on his own.
I think though, maybe as a guess that it may solidify the band in a way that means they are ok; really. Maybe this time away, apart is like a good thing to give them some new fuel for the main band? Idk........

hey we might, you never knoooowww :)

and to the op, the band members need a place to showcase their ideas when they don't work out for the band. it's nothing bad, it's more healthy than what other bands are doing i think. besides, theyre back in the studio now and the members have said they want pearl jam to be a band for a long time. they have a chemistry that's magical that not many groups of people have. i see them staying together for a long time :)

    Also a quote from Mansfield:

    "SEE YA NEXT YEAR!"

Relax, it's not a big deal. They aren't scheduled to get into the studio for a while. Do you expect them to just sit around and twiddle their thumbs until then? It's their time off from each other, and they chose to do something productive with it. They take time off regularly, it's how they stay sane/alive. You are just reading wayyy too much into stuff that is just normal behavior.

I say this all in the nicest way possible :D

i think the well is dry and the band is finished. the only way you'll ever hear them play together again is if you go out and buy all the solo cd's and play them all at the same time. if that doesn't do it for you, maybe it's time to open your veins. what else is there to live for, right?

This is a very good point.

Plus, if you were at, or listen to the boots from '08, you can just feel how much the guys really enjoy playing together. I don't think they'll be giving that up in a hurry.

The fact that they are out there with side projects writing new material means the creative juices are flowing, which will hopefully translate into something great for the next album.

Doing solo work on the side helps the band. That way, they have an outlet for songs that wouldn't work for the band, and they can evade the egos that go with rock bands. When you can do your own thing freely, it's a good step towards a lasting musical relationship.

  • Fear not faithful Jammers, Mike was on the radio last Friday for the Groz w/Gas-A-Thon (I think there was a thread about the stuff the band donated to the cause) here in Seattle.

He told the guys that the boys were in the studio kicking around ideas, had about five songs so far... He went as far as to say they might have something out this year (I'd be surprised if that were the case). They also pressed him on when the next local show would be, he said hopefully sometime soon after the new year.

Sounds like all is well in PJville!

Dont worry. They have been doing that sort of stuff for years, its how they stay healthy as a band. They have been a band for 18 years, by now I am sure they know what they are doing. They wouldn't be touring and releasing ther NINTH album if things weren't going well. There are very few bands that have lasted this long. In my opinion, I think they are the ONLY band on earth to last this long without taking any long breaks. They have basically been either touring, or writing new material these past 18 years.

Indeed, but its nice all the same that people who haven't been into PJ for long are worried about them. It just shows what kind of effect they are having on them which is only positive. Unfortunately the original post and sometimes threads like this are not! Me, I've learned to live with all the 'waiting and seeing' with these guys. Its actually kind of fun when you go back a few years and crack out V's, Yield, Binaural etc, etc.

  • i think the fact that they each have their side projects is a good thing. think of it as being in a relationship with your significant other. if u don't have input from outside sources (friends, jobs, etc.) then things can get a little stagnant. i don't think we should be afraid of these artistic endeavors at all....i think we should embrace them for the overall good of what the guys will bring back to the table with them when they reconvene!!!!!

    just my 2 cents :)
