Grunge Godfathers Pearl Jam To Hit Number One Next Week After 13 Years
Grunge fans rejoice! According to Billboard magazine, multi-platinum recording artists Pearl Jam are poised to take the number one spot on the album chart for the first time in 13 years.
The group's last studio release, 2006's self-titled set, came in at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The band last graced the No. 1 slot way back in 1996, when "No Code" became its third chart-topper.
Industry insiders are strongly suggesting that their newest studio album, "Backspacer," could sell anywhere between 175,000 to 200,000 copies by week's end, dethroning current top seller, Jay-Z's "The Blueprint 3," which pushed 298,000 copies during the week ending September 20.
The new album is sold exclusively in the through Target, iTunes, Pearl Jam's Web site and independent retailers. This is the band's first release without a major label backing them.

I am impressed, not only that it will be the #1 record, but that it will accomplish that feat via the distribution they chose.
I'd be curious to see the numbers of copies sold at independent record stores :geek:
It's a beautiful cd. Lots of people should get to hear it!!

I hate that term "Grunge Gods". So over it!
It also shows what is apparently an alternate Backspacer CD cover.

Ugh, that cover is so 1991!

Is it linked off the Examiner article?

Sorry about that. It's not just that they show the cover of Ten. The caption for the picture is specific for Backspacer.
