  • lol I dont know about THAT.

But I have a very strong feeling that a few years from now, this record will be considered the new No Code. It will stand the test of time. It really is a great fresh step for them.

Agreed....what a fresh, great sound from our beloved PJ. +10

Its tough to make statements like that at this moment, but I share your love with this album. With alot less politics than the last 2 records, the production, stellar song writing and overall feel of this album.....these songs will be making the sets for years to come.

I really couldn't be happier with their effort

Good job Guys, See you in LA :)

I think it's to "bland". When people get off the Pj high it will move down on your lists. It will be easily forgotten when they have 15 records ;)

Explain substance.....Eddie pissed off, extended Mike solos, bitchin at world affairs, no resemblence to TEN, 8 minute overdrama.????

Love all of PJs work.... but Backspacer takes the cake to all the above musically, melodically, and I think it is more of a team album than perhaps even Yield. It makes me dance! Sorry for your take on it..........

Ten will always be the best record i think, not necessarily my favourite buts its their best.
  • yield is still my favorite but i'm loving backspacer. i'm gonna need some time before i can rank it.

I don't agree that it will be easily forgotten. I haven't felt this way about a PJ album since the first time I heard Yield. Backspacer will stand the test of time.

  • I agree that it's too early to properly rank it, however, I can say it's their best since Yield for me. Imagine hearing "Force of Nature" on the radio. "Johnny Guitar" is not getting enough love among the board IMO. That song is a big departure for PJ and it's great! I've bought every album since Vs. (5 Against 1 on cassette) the day they came out. This record sounds fresh and new and a little weird, which is how I always felt about their best records.

it's their most popular, but i am not sure it's better than any of them in terms of quality. probably middle of the road if i was to rank in my opinion. vitalogy, yield, B/S would probably be ahead. Also probably like No Code better.

ten put them on the map though, so thank baby jesus for it.

i don't think it will be honestly. i'm always amped for new PJ records, but this one is different in some way. everybody said S/T was their rebirth. maybe that's true, but this is truly their return to form. i don't think bland is anywhere on the list of proper descriptors for this album. IMO, of course.

Pearl Jam decided to eliminate playing live in North Carolina and a some other southern states.

I’ve loved their music since Day One and have bought every album/CD they’ve ever released (and DVD, too). I’ve attended many of their concerts, through out the years. I've spent a lot of money supporting this band, for a long time.

But having moved from NJ to NC (10 years ago), I now find myself living in an area where this band has made a conscience choice to longer tour.

Which I believe is absolutely disrespectful and short-sighted; on their part.

So Ed Vedder and the band can kiss my @ass!!

You exclude me and all the other Pearl Jam fans down here and I exclude you from my money spending habits.

Take your new album and shove it!! I won't spend a damn penny on your band.

Yeah, I know. Who cares, right? I'm sure the band will lose sleep over losing one fan  But what they' have been doing and continue to do........ is wrong and disrespectful to a whole lot of fans who love their music, have stuck with them and supported them.

Nice way of treating your fans.

I understand all the love for the record, I'm enjoying it a lot. But musically this is about the simplest they've ever been, especially on the second half, hopefully we'll get some more experimentation next time around.

  • What???

This is the worst record since Riot Act. No one loves these guys more than I (with the possible exception of everyone here), and I believe Eddie might be the most prolific songwriter since Dylan, but ... damn.

A freakin TARGET commercial? How bad does it have to be to stoop that low?

Been with em from the beginning, and I'll be there til the end, but.... damn. :(

yeah I'm not sure if its my favorite but its definitely up there. However, both my dad and best friend (both hardcore fans) think its their best ever so you're definitely not alone.

    Then listen to the lyrics.

And who cares about TARGET. I didnt start listening to pearl jam because they weren't sellouts, I listened to them for their music. Its not like they came out with some sellout album like Chris Cornell, the music is AMAZING.

And please, even when they do partner up with big companies they try and make it better by having some sort of donation to a charity. They still do all that stuff even after this verizon and target stuff, so who gives a shit.

if you don't like the album, then whatever but the target commercial really has nothing to do with it.

I'm so sick of hearing about this target commercial. THEY ARE DOING THIS ON THEIR OWN, THEY ARE TRYING TO BEAT THE RECORD LABELS. In order to do that, you have to do some promoting on your own, maybe the trade off of not having to work with a record label is worth it for them. The commercial is there to promote and sell something that they created, funded, and distributed on their own. It also tells the average casual fan where they can find the album if they heard the fixer on the radio and would like to go pick it up. I can't recall another self-released album that took #1 on itunes and will debut at #1 on billboard. Don't be ashamed of the fact that they made that commercial, be proud of them.
