Force of Nature

This is it. If I ever get married this would be the song. Two people who are nothing to others find so much between them. I think this is the best love song PJ created. I tell you, there's quite a bit of love on this album, eh?

There is.
I noticed that too. :geek:
“It's about the strength of one person in the relationship, when they can withstand some of the faults in another – maybe drug addiction, or straying off the path. The person in the song is the lighthouse for the other person caught in the storm.”
My favorite line in the song has become "the strength you might think would disappear, resolving."
The guy in the story knows this woman is a fuck-up, and would have every reason to finally say, "Fuck it. Enough. I can't take this anymore. I'm done." Instead, it only makes him love her more. It only seals his resolve to save her, to be her lighthouse.
Great thought. Great song.
EDIT: The other thing I kind of like about it, because I can be a cynical bastard, is that the story doesn't neccesarily have a happy ending. It's a cliffhanger. Our man ends the song the same way he begins it, on the shore waiting for this woman to come home. How will it end? "No one can know," Ed says. "But his heart don't seem to roam."
for the least they could possibly do
seriously? this seems like a disastrous relationship that is taking place in this song. not sure i would want it to be a song played at my wedding.
I kind of agree with you, but I don't think we really know how this relationship plays out. At the end of the song, we're left with this guy still waiting on the shore. Maybe she comes back safe and sound and stays forever. Maybe she doesn't. We don't know.
I do think, in a way, the man in the song is a pitiable character. You ever have a friend who is with some guy or girl who is just a mess, in one way or another, and you can't for the life of you figure out why your friend puts up with it? That's what this song reminds me of.
Maybe Ed is trying to paint that kind of unconditional love as noble. I don't know.

Makes me ache,... Makes me shake,...
Is it so wrong to think that love can keep us safe?
My favorite part of the song.
Seriously. They need to play this song. It doesn't need to be the "All or None" of Backspacer. Especially with Johnny Guitar floundering around out there.
for the least they could possibly do
"No way to save someone who won't take the rope..."
It's just a beautiful song. It's perfect in every way.
Such a sad story :( This man has dedicated his everything to her... all for nothing in return.

I'm just telling you what Ed said. Blame him.
for the least they could possibly do
is that exactly what I thought I read."
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
Hey, people played "Every Breath You Take" at weddings and it is NOT a romantic love song.
"All the strength that you might think would disappear, resolving..."
Doesn't that say it all? We think we know how others will react or behave, but we never do. We assume, we expect, we act based on our assumptions, but we never know what someone else truly feels until they act.
It didn't end the good way though. I moved on.
Totally agree. This is their version of "When A Man Loves A Woman". This guy is lost.

I remember my first Backspacer listen...as soon as I got to this badboy it just instantly hooked me and pulled me in! SUCH a groove! Absolutely LOVE IT! And then you open with the lines "understand she's a force of nature" Oh come on!!! It's just too damn good!
I agree that it paints such a vivid picture too!! I love that about it. Really takes you on a journey...you can clearly see it all.
Ah I LOVE that part!!!!!! !! And then how it just KICKS back in!!!!!! YES YES YES!!!
The line "a beacon on dry land" = just plain brilliant! LOVE LOVE LOVE!! So much LOVE for everything that is this song!!!!!! SO thrilled to have experienced it LIVE in SD AND PHILLY! The crowd absolutely ate it UP in Philly!!!! Was awesome to see this song getting the kinda reaction it rightfully deserves!

I like the way it paints a good picture too.
This song RULES! Hands down one of my favs to date! I love the way the music and Eddie's voice completely compliment each other...the way his melodies matches the music like they're one. I don't know, I just love it! Also love how it ends with a solo! How cool is that!?!?

Between this and Speed of Sound backspace has become an hour long record when factoring in my repeats.
