Why do you think Ben never played during the PJ set in Sea?

Both nights, he played a pretty quick set, and though at times he was in a good mood, and the music and his performance were Hendrix like as always, it seemed sort of like his demeanor was angry or sort of not there. He didnt talk to the crowd too much.

And I found it odd how during the PJ's encores, including the Indifference for Night 1, he never came out and played. Ed never mentioned Ben until I think Night II, and said they were happy to play with Ben and the band.

Was Ben just not feeling up to it these shows? His playing and musicianship didnt suffer, but he just seemed like he was someplace else.

I was right on the corner, front row above Ben Harper on night one....during the last 2-3 songs, both Ed and Mike at seperate times (when they came over to that side) were looking in that direction and caught his eye...you could clearly see them both look surprised to see him there and they each mouthed "Hey Ben" or "Ben"....really almost like they hadnt yet seen him in person...I thought it was weird...but maybe I was just drunk.

ive seen him 3 times with this new band and all 3 times he has said almost nothing to the audience except a polite "thank you" between songs every now and then, and maybe the odd comment here and there. Not sure if hes trying to let this new bands music speak for itself ....or try to have it be about his new BAND as opposed to a solo thing or not. He definitely used to address the crowd a LOT more when he was touring w/ the ICs.

  • Maybe because he came out and played only his new ablum which is mediocre at the very best IMO. Just an idea....I've come to expect a lot more from BH. Maybe it's his band, maybe it's not, or maybe some will say I'm crazy. He's got so many gems it would've been nice to hear just one or two. Either way, I guess seeing what he had to play the first night gave me some free time between 7:30-9:00 the next night..

I was in row 7 seat 12 on night one in Seattle and I saw Ben with friends on the side of the stage distinctly rocking out and smiling. He called Pearl Jam the "greatest band on the planet" and said he was honored to open for them. Eddy dedicated Given to Fly to Ben and metioned that they have been playing together for a long time and it was nice to be able to play with him again. There was love. Don't read into it too much. If Ben Harper plays for 1.5 hours we don't get out of there till 12:30 and it is Monday. As it was, he played a solid set and he rocked it hard and tight for almost an hour. He and his boys were there as an opener, not a co-headliner.

  • Night 2 I was in row 11 Stone side and watched Ben with his wife stand by the side of the stage and watch PJ for a few songs before bailing. Both shows I was hoping Ben would come out and play with them.

Really like Ben with the Relentless 7
  • I dont know, but I expected him to come out for Indifference. But was extremely happy when he didnt. I honestly cant stand when he does Indifference with them.

  • I would consider myself a big BH fan, but I just haven't been able to get into the new album either. I think part of the reason PJ brought BH on was to help him promote his new album. I just don't really dig it too much. In an old bootleg I have, he says something about how many records he still wants to make with one of those being a rock record...so here's to hoping he gets back to making the type of music that made us grow to love him and the rock thing is one and done.

Met you at the pre-party on Seattle night 1. I was the solo guy who pulled up a seat next to you at the bar. You left for quite a while, came back...I was still there. Glad you had a good time during your first trip to the northwest. Take it easy.

From past experiences of seeing ben open for other bands and having backstage passes

ben usually does a met and greet right after his set backstage

    just saying

people tend to read too much into what they observe especially with beer goggles on
**CUBS GO ALL THE WAY IN......never **
  • I kept expecting him to come out while they were playing indiffrence
