Backspacer review

I found this on some blog this morning.. Enjoy
***Gonna See My Friend
a bit of a throw away, unfortunately. it's a little too extreme, whatever they did. i like the riff but the lyric is just too repetetive. you could say the same about Hail, Hail but this time it's not nearly as infectious or captivating. they could've added an alternate line to break it up a bit or even better- fleshed it out into a full song. it just sounds unfinished. it had potential, however.
***Got Some
wow again! best song on the CD. if PJ has a chance to make the charts again, this is their best shot, imo. they need to get a clever video out there to help the cause. but will "the battlecry of the midwest", as ed labeled it in that interview, play on the east/west coasts? as a chiocagoan, i totally identify with this one.
***The Fixer
doh! i just can't get into this song. it sounds way too muddled, wishy-washy, warbley and weak. it doesn't seem to go anywhere, sounds stuck in the mud and drags along and the hook is annoying. doesn't seem to fit well on the album either, imo. doesn't have enough potential for me to figure out how to salvage. they can't all be winners, i guess.
*** Johnny Guitar
decent enough song but not one of my faves compared to the rest. a little middle of the road and a nice break on the album. maybe my biggest prob with this one is that Johnny Guitar is a pretty obscure reference. maybe a little too obscure...like dennis miller reference obscure (and i do like dennis miller quite a bit). good but not great. it does have a decent build up to keep it from dragging too much.
***Just Breathe
another one of my faves that stood out pretty quickly. drums stomp along like an elephant stampede and the guitar riff cuts like a buzzsaw. nice groove.
***Amongst the waves
an extended jam that reminds me a bit of "Army Reserve". i like it but it could've been tightened up and trimmed a bit. i like the effect on ed's vocals- it adds to the atmosphere, mystery and intrigue of the song- the roadtrip and story ed's taking us on.
***Unthought Known

***Speed of Sound
jumped out a me right away and is one of my faves. the riff is almost droning and and resembes a bird/animal mating call...but it works! really dirty, gritty groove and great lyrical flow. i could see this as a single. my only problem...too short! add another verse and extend it another minute and it'd be even more killer than it already is.
***Force of Nature
a four on the floor kick beat and clever high-hat thing going. sounds like an organ and slide guitar thing going on. kind of a different sound but it works pretty well. i have to admit this one works even better live- seems to have more passion during the shows. either way, good song.
***The End
this one has grown on me with more listens. love how it fades in more and more with the vocal intro and builds up when the music kicks in. kind of a melancholy, reflective tune but in a good way. not crazy about the effect/riff that kicks in for a bit starting at 1:20. it's a bit overbearing. might've worked better more as an undertone.. still, a very good song with a couple tweaks.

Has this even been played live yet?
What the fuck is this Blogger talking about? (Unless it has been played, then it would be what the fuck am I talking about.)
It hasn't. I think he might be mixing up the song titles ...
again, someone wanting us to take a review serious when they cant even get the facts straight. :?

REALLY??! Does Just Breathe even have drums? and the guitar riff cuts like a buzzsaw? what kind of buzzsaw? one made of flowers and feathers?
this guy is off his fucking rocker .... can we delete this fucking "review" somehow? It's ruining my day.
It has drums, but an elephant stampede they ain't.
I agree. If you have an opinion about the album, fine, state your opinion. But I'd rather not hear it gussied up in the guise of "a blog," as if that somehow gives it any more legitimacy.
for the least they could possibly do
If anything, mentioning the blog has the opposite effect. "Look, I'm a self-important d-bag who thinks that everyone wants to hear my opinions".
Ahem ... Apologies to anyone on here who keeps a blog.
