Hello Pearl Jamers,
So I am graduating college in the fall and I have been strongly considering joining the Peace Corps graduate program. It seems like an amazing opportunity to better the world and to better myself. I was just hoping that there was a fellow member in the Ten Club that has already done the Peace Corps and/or specifically their graduate program that I could talk to that may help me along with my decision. So please please please get back to me and help me because I have a bunch of questions I would like to ask you to help me along the way with my decisions.

Thank You,
Joe

I'll also give this thread some attention. I graduate in December, and I was also looking at the joining The Peace Corp (not the graduate program though). Have you talked to a recruiter? I know most campuses have contact information, and, at least at the University I am attending, the PC usually have representatives at workshops/job fairs for student's making post-graduation plans. Good luck.
I'm gone ..Long gone..This time I'm letting go of it all...So long...Cause this time I'm gone
  • I served in the Peace Corps from 2000-2002. I taught journalism students at two major universities in Moscow.

It was a very strange and difficult time to be in Russia, I was there during 9/11. The whole world was upside down, and being overseas allowed me to see things from a very different vantage point. It was pretty incredible to be in Moscow at that time. While anti-American sentiments were ratcheting up, many people also warmed up to me with feelings of a shared experience (the city had suffered multiple terrorist bombings--among other tragedies--during my stint). All in all, I can say that time period encompassed some of the most terrifying and beautiful moments of my life.

I've been back for several years now and am grateful to still be in touch with some of my students. I also started a local club for returned volunteers who get together to trade stories and work on community projects.

I have yet to meet a returned PCV who doesn't love talking about their experience, and I am no exception. :)
Feel free to PM me or post your questions.

BTW- Another 10c member/returned PCV, is going with me to see PJ play in Philly. Are you going to any of the shows?
