I don't post much, but I have to say that I have been doing nothing but listen to Backspacer since Sunday. I absolutely love it. The last album that had this effect on me was vs. back when I was 15 or so. At that time songs like RVM, Daughter,Leash and Indifference really hit home for me dealing with my parents, one of which was/is dealing with addiction. Now, as an adult with a family of my own, Backspacer seems to hit home, but in a much more positive way. My favorites are Amongst the Waves, Unthought Known, Just Breathe and Gonna See my Friend. But the whole thing is great. I was able to see them in Chicago in August, and am hoping they hit the midwest again in 2010! I would love to hear more Backspacer live!

I like your post...i love this album...it hits me the same way it hits you...i dont say this lightly...i think its stunning....but i warn you get ready for the onslaught here...apparently eddie sounds like shit, the songs are rubbish, his lyrics mean nothing and PJ are finished....you've been warned!!! But I am in your club...I LOVE EVERY SECOND OF IT...so glad you do too. Enjoy my friend.

  • I agree. This cd is their best since vitalogy. I have listened to all the others and loved them all. This one, however, I discover more with every listen. The lyrics and the arrangemnet with the music are so beautoful.
  • I'm going to be really brave here and admit that I totally agree with you too.

I think this is PJ's best album since TEN. The lyrics are deep, significant and positive. My 8 y/o son loves "amongst the waves" and "supersonic" and walks around the house humming the melodies and trying to remember the wordsto those tunes since last week. When you can amaze a 38 y/o and an 8 y/o, that's good stuff. See you in Philly x 4. Pearl Jam Rocks !!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I agree, backspacer rules, I've been listening to Gonna See My Friend every morning to start my day this week. But you know it's a great record when it's in again to hate PJ. People are just jealous and you can really tell alot about a person when they have nothing to do but be negative.
  • Loving the new album! Looking forward to the new songs live In Auckland and Christchurch in November.

  • It's a great great great great great album. I've been kind of like a one man promotion machine, burning it for people who wouldn't normally listen to Pearl Jam. Each one has given it rave reviews. Usually mentioning that they love #2, 3, 5,6,7, 10, and 11, with unthought known being universally loved. How someone can listen and have a blah reaction, I don't get. My vote is for unthought known as the first single. Love Backspacer.

  • Yeah I think it kicks ass also, especially Amongst the waves, un thought known and the end. I just wish it were a bit longer. It just seems like they could have recorded more since their last album, but what the hell it's better than nothing at all. And I got to see 2 un real shows in chicago and was in the first 12 rows each night.

    THANK YOU PJ
  • The more you listen the more you get out of it....

I had it going in the background last night and I really enjoyed just listening to it...rather than try and analize every little detail. Its got some great singalong tunes and three outstanding songs that just take you away (amongst the waves, unthought known and force of nature)

    Great album!!
Im so happy with my righteous self..
  • I agree, the more you listen to it, the more it grows on you, and in a short amount of time. Lyrics are very relevant to life and love as we know it.
  • great album. way better than self titled. i think all of us who said we liked ST were fooling ourselves.
  • If I am not listening to the album, I am thinking about it. If I am not thinking about it I am listening to it, If I am not listening to the album I am sleeping. And yes 2 days in a row I have awoken to thee exact same thing as soon as my eyes open I think " Johnny Guitar Watson......."
    all those paper plates......
