Boom and Backspacer...
Sorry for this amateurish question here but I am seeking some wisdom....but first, a little story:
So there is was, Sept. 20th. I got up early on that fateful Sunday, threw on "sunday gear" (cap, tee, shorts, and flips), grabbed my morning dose of Venti MIld at Starbucks (cuz I don't get a choice in CA to have the BETTER COFFEE...ala Dunkin Donuts), and drove over to the nearest Target store promtly at 10AM.
The Target is located in shopping center that gets quite a bit of business so my expectations were high on this place having a decent display.
I get in, march to the back of the store, pass the mens clothing section (while scanning to ensure that they didn't mistakingly put the PJ promo shirts over there - they didn't - whew), and look to the NEW RELEASES display. Looming overhead is the floating banner with the band (which was cool) and in front of me was three rows of regular Backspacer CDs. No tee shirts, no apron, no rock band versions, no LPs, just a few rows of PJ CDS...equal in size (and right next to) Black Eyed Peas new CD. I was excited and disappointed at the same time. I guess I was expecting so much more - Pearl jam inspired Target commecials (though in spirit Im glad there wasn't), bells, whistles, and large displays of the band....nope, none of that. Just some discs. Some Target exclusive huh?!
(Though the story didn't end there - i left the disc there and proceeded to visit 4 other Targets within a 25 mile radius and saw the same setups - I ended my quest at 2PM that day and popped in the disc.
I'm listening to the CD and I can't believe how prominently featured Boom is on this release. I was really impressed - it sounded tight musically and it was awesome to see the band fully embrace piano as a focal point more now than ever before (ever since Riot Act). I checked the liner notes to see BooooooooooM's name appear on the accompanyment of at least half the songs and his name is nowhere to be found?!
So here is the SUPER long and ROUNDABOUT way to ask my question....
WHAT HAPPENED TO BOOM? IS HE STILL WITH THE BAND? Did I miss something here? Sorry if i am dumb here - i just didn't see him listed, havent read anyone in the boards mentioning him, and i was wondering what the deal was.
Anyway, that's it. Looking for some info and thought I'd throw in my disappointing tale of Target.
PS - Is the Rock Band DL worth it?
Cheers!

He just didn't record this record with them. He's never really been an full-fledged band member, just an additional musician, if you will. But, Boom is still very much around.
...who wasn't credited as playing on Backspacer in the liner notes in a weird oversight.

Really? Wow - that is surprising.
Boom DOES appear in the liner notes for Riot Act and Avocado, no? If yes, I wonder why not here...but then again, it seems as though not much IS in the liners. If no, my bad.

Target blew this horribly. I am surprised PJ will bow in at #1 on the Billboard Charts next week with 200k copies sold. Imagine what they would have sold had Target really lived up to what EXCLUSIVE entails.
If it wasn't credited ,maybe it was..........
is that exactly what I thought I read."
at the two i went to, they had the end cap like that with the big sign over it, and the entire thing was nothing but backspacer - both CD and Vinyl.
Producers often remain uncredited for additional pieces, so I don't find it overly odd. Usually they just play little filler pieces tho. The piano is pretty prominent....
Yup - That is EXACTLY how it looked. After the 3rd store, when i got to the 4th I just said "really. I mean...really. Is that it?!" I had the guy go into the computer and tell me WHAT STORE actually had it as a REAL exclusive. He actually came back and said - WESTERN SAN JOSE has everything...50LPs, Tee SHIRTs, 75 Rock Band Dics, etc.
Ummm - why isn't EXCLUSIVE distributed to alllllll Targets??? I just don't get it.
