so now that backspacer is out, what have been your favorite releases of '09 (so far)? i think it's been a pretty good year...

1. neko case - middle cyclone
2. yo la tengo - popular songs
3. animal collective - merriweather post pavilion
4. monsters of folk - monsters of folk
5. pearl jam - backspacer
6. sonic youth - the eternal
7. wilco - wilco (the album)
8. grateful dead - to terrapin (hartford '77)
9. dan auerbach - keep it hid
10. grizzly bear - veckatmist

...may have forgotten a couple, but if i did i guess they weren't that spectacular. i think that's pretty accurate. i'd substitute the dead for hold time by m. ward for actual albums.

    In no particular order....

    Dino Jr - Farm
Soulsavers - Broken...Ok I know I said no order but this is #1. This is the best album I have heard in a very long time and it gets better with every listen. This maybe my favorite album of the decade.
Soundtrack of our Lives - Communion
    Doves - Kingdom of Rust
    Silversun Pickups- Swoon
    Neko Case - Middle Cyclone
Antony & The Johnsons - The Crying Light

Just bought the new Black Crowes but haven't listened yet. I'm pretty excited about this album too.

This year's been kinda disappointing compared to last year for me. A few likes though:

    1. Soulsavers- Broken, only album I've heard all year that blew me away
    2. Pearl Jam- Backspacer, my super low expectations might have helped, but I've been pleasantly surprised by this one.
    3. Brand New- Daisy, only heard it once or twice, but I love it

There are a lot of albums from bands I like that came out this year that I enjoy, but were nothing special, like Wilco, the Black Crowes, and the Hold Steady's live cd/dvd.

I'm hoping Flaming Lips and Built to Spill end the year on a good note for me!

fuck me, how'd i forget that the hip came out this year? that album was incredible. make that my number one. i also did like silversun pickups. but muse was a letdown and jay-z's album sucked.

i ought to look into cuban linx 2, but i always thought the first noe was kinda overrated and i have a love/hate with wu tang in general so im not sure. plus i've been pouring all my $ into the beatles remasters lately ;)
