Unrealistic expectations for Spectrum shows?

When I saw the tour schedule and saw that there were roughly two weeks before and after the Spectrum shows, I immediately started convinced myself that these would be epic shows. Now, of course they will be, but I've decided that since they made a point of coming back to the Spectrum that they're really gonna let it all hang out. I feel like they almost have to do at least 2 or 3 acoustic pre-sets. Right? They're probably gonna play every song they've recorded over the 4 nights. Right again? One show will open with "Gonna see my friend" and then they'll play Backspacer start to finish. They have to, right? I mean at the very least they should do that. It's about time we hear "bugs", isn't it? Ok, that's too far, and I'm gonna love every second no matter what they play, but are these crazy expectations?

I think they will be pretty normal shows but will have some special guests. One or two nights might top 2.5 hours and there will be a nice vibe, but they aren't going to heal the sick and set the captives free or anything. :)

    that made me laugh.

I just really wish there was a way that I could make it to all 4 of them. Guess I will just have to settle for the 31.

As to unrealistic expectations, anytime I build something up to be epic no matter how good it is I leave a little disappointed. Had that happen with OLF, figured it being the first time back to the Polo Grounds something crazy would happen. It was a good show, but nothing ground breaking.

    Enjoy the 4 shows
  • yes.

just go to it like any other pearl jam show(s).
you will have a GREAt time, they will be amazing shows....but leave all those 'expectations' behind.....
    Stay with me...

I am myself like you somehow

Forget the doctor, I prefer to contact more women if I have that problem. 8-)

Yeah, I wish I could make all 4 as well. Unfortunately I don't have the time and money that I did in previous tours. (2006 = 10 SHOWS!) I'll just be going to the first two Philly shows. I know that goes against the conventional wisdom of the last night(s) of a multi-night stand being the best, but at this rate I've seen so many shows that I don't need every show I go to to be the best ever. I just want to see the band :)

Usually, for me, when they play a place 2 nights in a row, one night is better than the other. Now with 4 nigts in 5 days, I'm sure the energy will be different night to night somehow. That's why I needed to be there for all 4, b/c you just can never tell which one(s) are going to be for all time.
  • i'm just so fraking excited to see them...i'm going to the 27th. will be my 11th time and the furthest i've traveled yet (i live in RI and drove to albany in '03 solo!) of course i'd LOVE to be seeing them all 4 nights but...

i hope everyone dresses up on halloween...what a crazy time that's going to be! (i'd love to wear my dharma jumpsuit that night :) )

as far as expectations...hell anything goes on any particular night. thats what makes the band so special. a full performance of backspacer would be amazing...

    2004 boston I, II
    2006 boston II

  • I can't see anything unbelievable happening for you all. We had a very intimate small gig in London recently and there were rumours flying about that all kinds of stuff was gonna happen... in the end it was 'just' a great gig by the best band in the world. With Ronnie Wood for one song. You might get Springsteen or someone.

As for playing Backspacer through, I think they've only done that twice in their career and if they were gonna do it on this tour I reckon it would have been at the first night in Seattle after the release.

Enjoy the shows everyone, it's gonna be great and you can expect maybe 70-80 different songs with 4 nights in the same venue. It's gonna be awesome.
we're all going to the same place...

    or craig ferguson
  • It's so funny cos I just got back from U2 in the meadowlands. I took my 8 year old daughter to her first concert, and tonight was better than the first, but from night to night there are maybe 4 or 5 different songs played. You know that going in with them, and you either love them or you don't, I love U2 and the past 2 nights their overplayed concert standards were somehow still fresh and entertaining. Meanwhile I'm all but demanding a full playing of Backspacer in Philly, PJ has spoiled me...

Pearl Jam just played like 47 different songs in two nights in Seattle. I would expect a similar treatment for these send off shows in front of a Philly crowd. I don't know what to "expect" but the potential is always there and Pearl Jam rarely disappoints. I would be at all four if I could.
