So i'm way too drunk off wine (been a way long day)... i decided to pull the seal off of my lost dogs LP and play the shit out of it. Yellow Ledbetter has never sounded so good, Alone was amazing and i cried during Hard to Imagine.. but i was advised to leave this one sealed... Fuck it.

I took pictures of my journey (it was... i cried tonight for real) and will post tomorrow.
Are we getting something out of this... all encompassing trip?

    uh

what do you think makes more sense:
to buy a record and stare at the cover
    or
to buy it and listen to it
  • i know, i know. i mean i have the cd of course... never expected to feel so compelled to open something, it was like christmas but i knew what the gift was but only i had no clue. I'm listening to all six sides tonight.

Records are meant to be played. End of story. :)

Is Lost Dogs valuable? I have a sealed copy, an opened copy I play, and I have seen more copies of that record in record stores than any other PJ release.

Well you could do what I do with PJ. I always buy 2. One to play and one to keep sealed. But I like to spend money.

It's reasonably valuable $100 or so on e-bay. I've been looking for one for ages :(

ShakyHands - glad you got to enjoy it. Hopefully one day I will too :o

Why own something you don't use and enjoy? It's like keeping a Corvette in the garage with a cover on it. You need to take it for a spin.

No problem... its still worth something to someone, just don't scratch the shit out of it and you will be fine. Records are made to be spun enjoy it. I know I still play mine.

Whoever thought we'd get to the point where someone would be upset because they PLAYED an ALBUM, you know, put it on the turntable, put the needle on it, listened to the music on it, the way God and Eddie intended...I'm not going after you, it's the state of...something other than the art! :)

What I DO NOT understand is how you can listen to YL off Lost Dogs with the end cut off, that drives me mad!!!

    Exactly!!

That's the only way you get any joy out of it, unless staring at a piece of cardboard covered in plastic does it for you

Your story and the emotions behind it say it all. Of course you did the right thing.
    :)
You had an awesome time listening to it.
I made a rule long ago...I am never to pay money for anything anymore that I will not use, play with or be riddled with strife if it breaks.
    Good for you.
    Glad you enjoyed it!
    :)
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
  • Now sober... i have decided that it was undoubtedly worth opening, i realize that even if it is worth something in it's sealed form... why the hell would i want to get rid of it?!
I mean it's not like i'm going to ever not love PJ.

It's funny- I think so many fan have the feeling that what this band has done/is doing is historic in the context of rock n roll history, that they try to archive things either for their own future emotional confirmation or for the perceived value that these objects will bring once time has made its way down the tracks a bit. Ironically though, it is all this object hoarding on a mass scale that will render these objects much less valuable than say, the first pressing of an early Beatles record, or other such truly rare rock n roll memorabilia. So, without further discourse, I'm thinking we should all enjoy the items we wish to personally indulge in the way they were intended- play that record, wear that shirt, hang that poster, flick that bic- um, er zippo, and let her rip!
  • fuck it!! you could die tomorrow and then what good is a sealed LP?

listen & love....and enjoy what little time you have on this God forsaken planet!
